CX, CX2 and Vortex and ??????

I know that the CX, the CX2 and the Vortex are virtuall identical (except for the electronics) but aren't there a couple more that are too? Which ones are they?

I had heard the eSky had some parts that would work. Anybody know how many parts are interchangable?
Or any other helis with parts that fit the CX / CX2?

As far as the eSky Lama and the CX/2 are concerned, there are only a few parts that are interchangeable...
1. The outer shaft and main gear are identical.
2. The bottom gear is identical, but the inner shaft is different. So, if you swapped a Lama's inner shaft witha CX/2's , you would have to use the CX/2's blades. But, then your upper and lower blades wouldn't match, and you would have to get the CX/2 lower rotor head and blades. The inner shafts are the exact same length, but the upper rotor head has slightly different spacing than the CX/2. Also, the kinkage on the flybar is just a little bit shorter on the Lama than the CX/2 and so is the flybar (just by a very small amount). It also has a slightly different ball-connecter which is smaller too. So, you would have to do some slight modification to interchange these parts...
3. The motors are identical even though they are mounted in different locations.
4. All bearings and mounting collars (including top collar).
Other than that, that is pretty much it. It is actually quite a bit of work to interchange parts between these two helis, but it can be done for some things very simply. I hope this helps...

Why everyone is so into swapping the Blade CX/CX2's nice 4-in-1 with one of those slop-togethers from competing cheaper models is beyond me! I'm sticking with either E-Flight or separates.

Hmm..... Well if cost is the object here then the easy solution is not to leave your throttle pinned in a crash like a newbie. Do that and there's no reason to have to buy a cheaper 4-in-1.

Besides, those "nice" 4-in1's sure do seem to have a high failure rate. Even several of the more experenced flyers have had issues with them.

I read in one of these threads that someone said the Dynam Vortex 4-in-1 had fewer tail drift issues than that found in the CX. Can anyone confirm? I assume they're interchangeable (perhaps with a bit of modding).

Hey guys! I just got the Vortex inner and outer shafts for my cx2, and I was wondering if anyone has actually done this and knows if there is anything I should look for as in problems or something. Thanks!

DaveG55 - I'm sorry if I insulted you. I just can't figure out why some people know they arn't supposed to leave the throttle pinned but still do. I got into the habit of killing the throttle if I was going to hit something because I didn't want to break blades as my LHS isn't so local.
ndoren - I think the vortex units are open backed to expose the boards, meaning they wouldn't heat up as much as e-flights. Everybody figures the drift is caused by heat so....

I chop my throttle when it goes in too.
Unfortunatly that's not the only cause of 4-in-1 failure. Several people have had issues where the 4-in1 just seems to quit working properly. My 4-in-1 worked great one day - no wrecks - and the next day it only provides enough power to lift the CX about a foot high and that only lasts for a couple minutes. I've rebuilt the heli, replaceing with new, both shafts, all blades, and gears, flybar and verified that the bearings are smooth and that both my batteries are good. It still won't lift properly. I don't know what happened but I've read of several people having the exact same experences and results.
I've also read of people having good luck with the Vortex 4-in1 and the last time I saw one it was $35 which is a pretty good savings over the e-flite one ($50) and if it does not have the tail drift issue it might be worth the gamble to try one.
But that's not really why I started this thread. I was really just courious which parts were interchangable between which helis.
