So i like to watch rc videos, i noticed alot of flyer's like flying with thumbs.I was taught using finger tips, i was told this is the way to get a more precise control. So i was wondering what others use and whats the benefits?

Whatever makes you comfy there's world class flyers that use one or the other. Personally I use thumbs for airplanes, pinch for helis but I didnt even realize that till someone pointed it out and asked me about it. If you plan on flying thumbs with helis you will probably need more expo, but I find pinching more precise, heck I even switch to thumbs for more sticking banging type stuff like piroflips.

Been using fingertips since day one. Seems like I have more control or "feel" for whats going on. Have a freind great natural pilot uses thumbs. Go figure..... try both and see what you like.

I started with airplanes and thumbs only. Now I find I really don't have the precise control I need to fly a heli without going to the pinch method. It took a while but I am now pretty comfortable flying helis with thumb and forefinger. Time will tell if that carries over to this summers airplane flying.

To each his own....
I fly thumbs on everything. Ive tried the pinch method, and it just messes me up. I cant fly like that.
Its all just personal preference really. Some people do better with pinch, and others do better with thumbs.
Find what works for you, and use that. There is no right or wrong way to do it.

yep, i fly thumbs, it has worried me seeing alot of top-end pilots use pinch. i can hover and probably fly around with pinch, it's just not comfy. i'm used to hitting throttle hold wiht index finger, go figure
. i didn't find presicion a problem with thumbs and i don't have any expo dailed in. i can now hover the blade inverted (it's my first heli, taught me everything from hovering to inverted hovering right now, never used a sim). and i think i'll stick with thumbs.
i think the problem for me with pinch is first, it's not comfy, and second, i can't feel center, i can increase teh stick tension, but i don't really want' to do that.

Its a matter of how you learned back when....
pinch method for me.
Its always been a good argument...unwinable really...great pilots on both sides. I use the TX body to orient my fingers (middle fingers runs throttle hold, expo, retracts and such). Its worth a try for a new pilot to start with pinch method though. Most teachers (Heli or plank) go that way.....there must be a reason.

Choppersrule Here,
As mentioned, a personal preferrance, I flew planks for years, now the heli.. I'm a pincher, thumb and forefinger.
Bdavison, a million thanks from the ol' Chopper, you've helped to many of us. Thank You for all you efforts and videos, etc. Greatly appreciated.

Thumbs.
This may sound silly but I feel I have more control and coordination. And I thank all the video game consoles (NES, SNES, Sega, etc etc) for that. It's just like a big game controller to me.

Hey Dave / Choppersrule - how's it going! I'm up in Carmel on the north side of Indy.
Will it ever stop snowing in Indy so I can go fly?!!
