I just received a new CP Pro after having a CP for a couple of months. Just checked out the electronics/servos and spun it up with weights on the skids. Everything looks good excepts that the pinion/main gear makes an awful wine/grind at low speeds. If you try to turn the blades or main gear by hand it seems to bind in places and is just generally tight, as opposed to my CP which is very smooth and easy to rotate. I'm guessing the motor's pinion is adjusted too close to the main gear (assuming that it is adjustable-I never had my CP apart to that level) Any suggestions ?? When I first heard it I thought the teeth were rubbing the canopy or the tie wraps, but that all seems to be fine.
Thanks

To adjust that you just loosen the two screws that hold the main motor on, just loose enough for the motor to slide around a bit. Take a heavy peice of paper (like 20lb copy paper) and rotate the main gear until the paper is between the pinion and the gear. This is the spacing you will want to use to keep it from being so tight. Slide the motor away from the gear a bit, and then slide it back towards the gear. This just makes sure that the motor is straight and not at a funky angle. Tighten back up the screws and you should be set. Let us know if you have any troubles.

Thanks for the fast response...and for the motor adjustment procedure. I'll give it a go tonight after work. I did take a good look this morning in a much better light and actually just the opposite is true. The pinion is just barely touching the main gear. So..the whirring I'm hearing must be the teeth sliding past the gearing..makes sense cause it is most noticeable on startup and slowdown where the acceleration is greatest. I'll let you know what happens.
Thanks again..

I had the same problem with my CP and adjusting the main gear lash did not help much. Turned out that the main shaft gear had a "tight" spot on one small section. I "solved" this problem by lightly sanding this gear section with 400 wet or dry sand paper. I did this (with the sand paper folded in a "V" shape) by lightly pulling the paper through the spaces between the teeth in one direction only. I only did this on the "tight" section. Two light passes did the trick and I now have no more "grinding" noise. The blades now stop or (come to rest) at random spots now as well.
Good luck and good flying!

Thanks for the input - if that is the case I have a spare main gear that I can put in there to test.
I have to ask the obvious..I thought these were factory tested ? I can see the motor mount slipping in transit, but a bad main gear? Another thing about the CPP that I've never read anywhere is...ya don't get an AC adapter for your included LiPo charger...and it costs $20. So it is only RTF if you happen to have a 12V battery laying around to use to power your charger. I guess if you got desperate, you could use your car !

I took the motor out and spun it up...it run nice and smooth -- no noise. The main gear is spinning freely and the binding that it was doing seemed to be anywhere you happened to be on the circumference. I don't see how motor adjustments are made...the washers sit down in a recessed seat and can't move. I had to take the screws completely out before the motor would budge. I did notice a plastic shaving that fell out with the last screw...perhaps it was under the washer ? After reassembling, the main gear no longer binds and the noise is all but gone. So since the only thing I really did was reseat the motor I'm assuming that was the issue. Thanks for the help and encouragement...now if I could only fly this baby...
