How do you guys feel about a CPP with a HDX300 Outrunner brushless motor with an 18 amp esc running with plastic blades and the direct drive tail motor? Is that a good enough esc or do you guys think that its a little small?

I'm not all to familiar with the hdx300 I'm assuming 3800kv. I know many people have gone with that before... 18A should be fine, I am guessing it is the sonix's 18a esc?
For good info on that setup check out this website.

I think most people go for the park 370, either the 4100kv or the 3600kv and the eflite 20a esc, it is more money though
4100kv

Also I am not completely sure on this one, but I think on the outrunners the bottom of the motor spins with the shaft instead of just the shaft spinning. If this is the case... then I don't think an outrunner would work... if not, let me know what the real difference is between inrunner and outrunner =)
Hopefully that gives you a bit of info... and maybe someone with some personal experience with that particular setup can reply =)

I have the HDX300 motor and it works fine. The can of the motor does spin, so make sure you have your wires tucked well.
It will run the heli fine with plasti-blades and the DD tail. The Sonix 18A or any 18A esc for that matter will be plenty. You will probably like the headspeed of a 9t pinion.
For some reason, I can't get better than 75 mah/minute with my set up. Many people who have the E-flite park 370 and E-flite esc seem to report better mah/minute efficiency.
