Default stunt pig

howdy, all

i was in huntsville, alabama last night and stopped by hobbytown usa, many thanks to the employees for all their help - bought a heli-max axe 3d as a stunt learner since all the other heli's are getting real close to dialed in perfect and i don't want to trash them doing stunt stuff until i get a better handle on it - this slightly-bigger-than-the king-2 plastic and fiberglass single-rotor going to be the stunt pig i'm afraid - i can hear its servos chattering at the thought

i was going to use the cp for the stunt stuff, but the dad gum tail rotor went out again, plus concerns over power and and replacing the tail motor with a belt tail is not as fun as just flying

it came with a 10.6v nimh, so i had the guys put a jst on it to use the stock eflite 3-cells off the blade cp - i'll let you know how that works out - also will be changing out the 4-in-1 for a eflite cp 3-in-1 and a ar6000 to beat it to death with the dx7 instead of the stock radio

Be prepared to spend lots of cash with helimax....... I bought a flybar once when the LHS was out of Eflite flybars. $5 for a single one from Helimax. $3.99 for a package of 2 from Eflite. Looked at some bearings and other similar parts and found most of thier products seemed to be about 75% more in price.

with my stunt mode learning method of try and crash and try and crash and try and crash, i doubt it will last long enough to wear out a bearing!!!!

the wire flybar should be straightenable - plastic blades - metal boom - hard canopy - seems a good setup for learning inverted stunts provided the frame holds together through my long slow learning curve !!!

Lol........... You are addicted! I bought a HBK2 for TREX training, but never have got it dialed in. I get more flight time out of the Blade CP's than anything else. Is the AXE a lil bigger? I know for a fact the flybars are interchangeble, but seems it was more of a 400 class than a 300. What size are the main blades on that?

symmetrical wood blade lengths (inches)

cp - 9 3/8
axe 3d - 10
hbk2 - 10 7/8
falcon 3d - 11 3/4
trex 450 - 12 3/4
the trex 600 is wrapped and i don't dare try opening it up again

Note that for a TREX 450, you can get 315 mm (12.4 in.) , 325 mm (12.8 in) and 335 mm (13.2 in) blades. I have flown all but the 315's on my 'REX.

the stunt pig ate a chair yesterday- its a tough little bird - i think i made the right choice for my stunt trainer

i was doing flips - tried a piro flip, overshot it, and all went real bad real fast - heli was nose-in, inverted, and heading straight for me - i tried to flip it back and got sideways and it took off like a rocket to the left - the rotor head took a huge chunk out of a the top of plastic chair that was sitting there and pieces went spraying all over the room

one blade grip sheared off at the bearing - the other blade broke at the bolt - bent spindle shaft into a u shape, had to cut it out - one servo to swash linkage was bent like a pretzel (i think possibly from a strike from the blade that broke off) - swashplate was separated but snapped right back together - main shaft was fine - metal boom has a huge dent in it but is sound - everything else came through it all scratched up but solid, good tough plastic

ordered 2 blade grips, 2 spindle shafts, and 2 sets of blades - not bad for a hit that would have ate the whole cp head and most probably would have trashed the cp's cf boom

no cx2 lol - helimax axe cp (axe mini ep rtf) - using it as a stunt mode (idle-up) trainer instead of the cp+ as its tougher for my dumb thumbs to bash
