Hi all,
Just installed the Real Flight G4 and so far, I'm frustrated with it [>:] Although it allows me to save a ton on repair parts, it seems like it's not very realistic at all. I've been flying the Helimax Axe CP and I think this is as close to the B400 I think I can get. I flew that thing for at least 50-60 flights this afternoon, but I just got frustrated because the heli doesn't respond the way the 400 does. For some reason, it's harder to land the simulator compared to the real thing. It's also harder to see the aircraft in the sim. I flew my 400 right after the simulator and it was nothing like flying the sim. It was easier to control the 400 and it doesn't "get away" from me like the sim does. I flew it again tonight just to practice some more maneuvers, but it's just as frustrating as earlier. It doesn't depict how I would actually look at the heli. It seems like it doesn't represent how I would actually fly a real heli. [End Rant]. I did save on probably $10K+ worth of repairs though...lol. Any suggestions how I can make this thing fairly realistic?

I'm sure the experts will jump on here when they get a minute, but I'll bet there are settings that will let you set almost every parameter of the helicopter. My Clearview sim was only $40 and I have probably 150 parameters that can be set using text files and changing values. I stuck a photo of just one screen of settings available, but from the titles you get some idea what the variables are.
I have spent hours with Microsoft Flight Sim adjusting aircraft to correct the 'as delivered' settings. If programs like those have the settings tweaks available, I'm sure your RealFlight does too. I've run realflight and it's a premium piece.
If you start poking at the menus you'll find settings. You may have to navigate through windows explorer to find the models within Realflight and the config settings may be in there. But the values of every lift surface, drag ratio, blade cord - everything has to be in there for the models to fly differently.
And that'll keep you out of mischief for a while. Tuning takes a lot of time - and it changes with temperature and altitude, so if you get it set in Iraq, you'll be wrong when you get home where the air is thin.
Not much of an answer, but I'm sure the guys on the forum will come through. They always do.
Enjoy your day - or rather your night? How many hours ahead of me are you? I'm in Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

Hi Mark,
I'm 8 hours ahead of CST. It's almost midnight here. I've been trying to reset to nights the past couple of days...very hard on the body. Thank goodness I have this sim to play with all night...LOL

Look for and download the trex 450 se v2 from the forums on the website. the axe cp is a 300 size and is quite squirrely, the trex 450se v2 is a bit more stable than the b 400 but closer. I'm not sure whether anyone has done a b 400 model yet but you can search for one.

I found the TREX450SE V2 download to be way more (over)responsive, twitchy and harder to control than the B400.
I even changed some of the settings like shortening the flybar, reducing the overall pitch and flybar deflection.
The results were not much better.
Now I'm flying using the TREX600 EA download.
It's all messed up on the ground, spins uncontrollably, but once you get to lift off speed it settles down.
I like it, but then again I liked the way the Impala 3D flew compared to the B400. Just a little too sluggish and heavy feeling.
So, I'm sticking to the TREX600...but that's just me.
Check out www.knifeedge.com and try some of the downloads.
You should be able to find something that you like.

I started out with the Impala. I also like the Dolphin. Obviously not totally accurate, but to me they feel a little closer to how my trex flies in real life. The Axe CP in the sim is ridiculous. Make sure you go into the simulation settings and set the heli physics level to max. More realistic that way.

And I though I was the only one!
I absolutely agree gnd2, the Axe CP is ridiculous, I have been beating my head against the wall trying to fly that thing smoothly....now that I have my CP Pro pretty much dialed in, it's MUCH easier to fly than the simulator! I got so disgusted with the Axe CP, I gave up on it for a while. My favorites (and I think closest to my heli) are also the Impala, with the training gear, and the Dophin, even though I fly an electric heli, these seem to be a bit more realistic than the Axe CP, or the other small electrics...
I think it's good in a way, however, at least it makes flying the real thing EASIER, rather than the other way around!!
I'm still really rough with nose in and (more so) side in hovering, and I still find the sim very helpful, even if the heli does drift off into oblivion from time to time!
I must have broken at least 100 sets of rotor blades so far, and countless other parts !!
Sure beats buying new parts any day!
Still the best spent $200 I've spent on this hobby so far...
Just my 2 cents...

Hi everyone,
I thought i'd share alittle bit to this thread. In my humble opinion I actually think that the G4 simulator of the AXE CP is a lot more stable than the actual helicopter. Both as an ower of realflight and the axe, I fill like superman on the simulator with the axe vs. out actually flying it. The tail on the real axe moves around a lot. You can't take your hands off of it for a sec. or you lose it, and visa versa for the cyclic control, and even more so.. There has even been models of the axe made to make it more unstable for G4. You can find it for download on realflights web site.

Thanks for all you guy's help. I'm going to try all the craziness on the sim and hopefully be able to do them smoothly on the real thing. Besides if one can fly a 300, one can fly a 400 or bigger, right?

Yes. Axe CP is very hard in the sim.
