Blade CX skids?
 

Does anyone know of some heavier duty skids for the CX??

I've never seen any.

You can strengthen your existing skids by wrapping them in fabric tape (hockey tape works well and comes in black) and then applying a layer of epoxy over the top. This setup will act sort of like fiberglass and will make your skids a lot stronger.

At least 20 threads in this forum about www.superskids.com and the v.2's from HeliDirect. Most of us are using one or the other. Anybody here that doesn't know about them isn't reading very much. :)

If anyone decides on getting super skids, get the v.3 and not the v.2. the v.3 is much, much better. a little more costly but worth the extra few bucks. I have both the v.2 and v.3. Wish I would have gotten two v.3. Tried to save a few bucks, another learning curve.

I got the Indestructable skids from www.bladecx2.com and they are GREAT!!!. I was going through the stock ones like crazy and these are literally indestructable. I had the blades touch 20 ft above my lawn and landing entirely on the left one didnt even bend it! They RULE!

Boomtown hobbies also has some EXCELLENT skids as I have seen over and over in this forum..:)

I picked up the boomtown set last week and they are very durable. I've dropped the heli from around 6ft with no damage to the skids. They also have some bend in them to cushion the shock a little bit.

I also have the bladecx2 skids....great stuff....have their tail boom as well.

I have the unbreakable skids from BoomTown and I am happy with them. The only thing is that since they are "bouncy", your battery tray clips will break unless you take steps to better secure the battery in its holder. I used a simple velcro strap for this and it works great.

you can make your own skids if you have the tools or the time and like modding i know you can buy them cheaper but its much more fun making them..

made mine out of CF tubes/rods and alum tubing.

...btw i made the tail boom as well from 89 cent alum tubing...the plastic fin is from another heli accessory.

the black thing hanging under the battery tray is the velcro battery strap to hold the battery to prevent the tabs from breaking

I dont know of any, but it would be helpful if someone could tell me, and some stronger blades....

heres the story

i was at my friends place, and we were flying his cx around, i was flying it, and i flew over to the side of his house, but i lost reception, low TX batts or sumthin, and the heli flew into the wall

Damage report:

Blades got shattered into about 50 pieces

the force of the blades hitting the wall shot the heli backwards, where it flew into Another wall, snapping the skids

my friends arm, he got about 3 pieces of the blade(s) embedded in it

so now i owe him some blades and and some skids :)

Hey Kamov,
What did you use for linking the vertical down supports to the horizontal skid bases? Looks like some kind is link. Was it cut from any CX parts? I have lots of 1/8" CF tubing and some 5mm CF tubes. I'm going to make my own and it looks easier than dremeling holes in the 5mm to CA the down rods. I'm trying to create an exact copy of a Hughes 300 with my CX. Already did the canopy and boom and it's looking real scale.

those are just drip irrigation T-fittings from hardware stores or Outdoor Sprinkler supply stores ...lol...
Aquarium T-fittings from pet store might be another source.. im pretty sure you'll find one that fits your needs

i've seen someone use alum tubing and soldered or glued them but thats for a Hughes 500 type heli

hey we'd like to see a photo of your project and give us tips..lol..

Hey, all--

I'm a new heli enthusiast and just got my Blade CX2 about one week ago. Having WAY too much fun- both indoors & out.

Hit upon a VERY cost effective and durable skid mod at the local Walmart. Believe it or not, it's those brightly-colored, neoprene covered, elastic neck straps for sunglasses, hunting glasses, etc. Cut them into about 1.5 or 2 inch sections. Build up the diameter of the skids with a few wraps of scotch tape and slip a segment over the tape.

Good cushioning & very grippy (my heli's survived several rough parking lot landings and stays put (no bouncing or "skating" during take-off)

Enjoying the forums here and all the learned advice.
