JCS Hobbies Plasti-Blade for CPP
 

I just got my plastic flat bottom blades today for my CP Pro. after checking the balance I installed them and gave it a test flight. they seem to perform just like the e-flite balsa flat bottoms but exept for one big difference. these blades actually survived my flight!!! I think I'm actually going to finally learn how to fly this thing now!!! thanks flyinsolo11 for the tip!!!:D

Yea I ran those into a piece of plywood at a decent head speed and they survived.

watch out for tail boom strikes - cuts the cf boom like paper - check around for posts on how to stop it, mainly wrapping black electrical tape around 'the spot' to cusion the blow, or even covering that section of the boom with aluminum tube

Yep, the platics are more durable at the cost of doing major damage (compared to the woodies) to the heli. I've lost tail booms, skids and canopies to the plastic blades.

My advice is use the woodies. After a couple of sets you shouldn't be crashing as much. Otherwise, you'll likely spend alot of time & money replacing tail booms and other expensive parts. Woodies are cheaper in the long run... JMHO ~Onad

Where is 'the spot'? I have flat bottoms right now because they didn't have symmetrical when I went, and plan to remove them before trying anything more than hover practice - but would love to keep my boom intact.

I cut five booms with the plastics until I wised up. Now I use the woodies with a 3 in. strip of electric tape along the leading edge at the tip and one wrap around the whole tip. I also simply slid a 2 in. piece of clear plastic tube over the boom at the strike area. I found a piece with a tight fit, heated it with a heat gun and slid it on. I have crashed more than twenty times with this and have not hurt a blade or the boom. Of course I bend and break everything else. Since I am not crashing so much now, I am going to try the carbon blades, but I will still tape them.

OK. I had my camera out. Here's a pic of the blade tape and the plastic tube on the boom. These blades have crashed at least 20 times. I am now waiting for my LHS to get some blade gripes in. Note the lack of antenna wire! I got a Spektrum Rx (2 in. antenna wire!)and fly with the DX6i that came with my 400. It improved the CPP's flight characteristics a lot. I now fly my CX2, CPP and B400 with the same radio.

You can also use "Spiral Wrap" for wire on the boom. Light and elastic...[8D] Comes in Clear (looks white) and Black at Home Depot.

I would wrap the ends of the blades with clear box packing tape after some strikes. It really protects and holds the plastic covering in place.

Don't forget to balance the blades after installing the tape...:D

I bought a set today along 6" of extra large fuel line tubing to put on the boom. I am going to slit one side of it to get it on and then electrical tape it in place. It is pretty thick stuff and if that doesn't save the boom I don't know what will.

i'm liking the look of the spiral wrap - probably light too - if you get too much weight back there you'll have problems getting the nose down and have to put some forward on the swash, which could affect performance in ff - try it and see, just watch the cg

I ended up only needing 3" od the fuel line tubing so it doens;t weigh anything at all really. I tried it last night and it didn't effect CG at all. I also had a monir hit last night and everything seemed to survive just fine. I think the nature of the rubber is perfect for repeling the blades.
