B400 with DX7
Hi.
I am setting up my B400 with a DX7 TX. I found a post ages ago and printed it out. I cannot refind the post to quote it to you guys [sm=sad_smile.gif] Found it http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7464466/tm.htm Setup so far has been ok but i am stuck on 2 things. Hope you can help out. in the travel adjustment all are 100% except rudd which should be L90% and R90%. I can get the L to 90% but I cannot move the curser down to change the right, it just moves to the next page. My second problem is in the pitch curve setup how do you get INH? ive gone all the way through the scales but cannot fine it. Thanks for any suggestions |
RE: B400 with DX7
After a few hours clicking and mucking about, I found how to change the settings. You move the throttle stick to the right to select the input.
I took outside and done some tests and the heli seems to move all in the right directions but as I get to about half stick the head tilts forward alot and blasts air upwards[sm=confused.gif] any ideas on this one? |
RE: B400 with DX7
Well first thing is take off your blades and disconnect the ESC from the motor, leave like 1 connection on, I think you can still hear the beeps that way.
Check that the connectors move the correct way before you put on the blades. I'd suggest you have a swash mixing issue or travel/trim issue. The 2 right and left servos should go left and right respectively when giving right stick right and left. When moving forward and back the rear two and front one should move forward and backwards . When moving throttle up all of the servo's should go up. Put in stunt/idle up (BE SURE YOU HAVE DISCO'ed the motor and blades.) Is pitch 0 at mid left stick? Is it positive when you go forward (trailing edge down)? How about moving to low stick on throttle(again in idle up/stunt mode) is trailing edge up, meaning it would fly into the ground? If not mess with mixes and trim, could also be servo reversed but since you said it went up I assume you mean it went up went pushing throttle up. DY |
RE: B400 with DX7
thanks DrunkYoda it was a swash mix issue. a thread said +85pitch, if set it to -85 and its all ok. i had to reverse all servo apart from tail and ive got -75 aile -75 elev and -85 pitch
I need to do some fine tuning but everything is now in the correct place.:) |
RE: B400 with DX7
Glad to help I had a similar issue but I decided I didn't like the placement of the bell hiller mixers. I liked my blade links on the other side of the seesaw. LOL
Swash mixes should be pretty straight forward, watch finless videos if you need more help with the DX7 he's got some good videos even if you only watch the trex setup. The blade is pretty much the exact same bird as far as radio is concerned. I think the swash mix you have is about right usually they are pretty close numbers together, you might mix with trim, setting your ball links to 90/leveling everything and try to get the numbers closer, but not a must. RE: B400 with DX7
I know my pitch is out and the washout control arms are not level, but as the weather is so good I dont want to adjust anything until the weather turns. She flys perfect considering.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
I now know the DX7 works ok and is setup so if I do the blade pitch etc and it goes wrong I know its me and not the TX if you see where im coming from. I am off to the park for 2 packs later then if I feel like it I may make everything level tonight or very soon as I have had load of suggestions and help from this forum that I feel confident to give it a go. This forum is the fab.[sm=teeth_smile.gif] Thanks to everyone. Without you guys Id be broke and without a heli as it would be always in repair. |
RE: B400 with DX7
Well thats it sorted[sm=cry_smile.gif][sm=cry_smile.gif] My biggest crash yet, stripped all servos bent flybar, blades ,washout control arm and lots of other bits so I have no choise now but to set up from scratch.
I was pleased with how the DX7 was working , I just got a bit to confident. When I get the new servos would you use the arms that come with them or would you reuse the stock servo arms. Dont know if it makes a difference. Thanks |
RE: B400 with DX7
A lot of times you can't use the stock. Are you going to buy the std blade 400 ones or are you going to try to get some decent servos?
I like the Hitec HS 56HB carbonites. They are a tad cheaper than metal, and the way you're flying the servos wont last that long anyways, just get cheapies, but goodies. I still recommend a decent tail servo and gyro, like th 401 and the S9650. They will help with tail movement. They will come up to about $160-175 though, a lot for a strong tail but worth it. The key with any servos is the 90 degree thing so use the factory if you can and make sure to get as close to 90 as possible. The rest of us just cut off the slack.(leave 1 hole if you can between cut and horn) I had a cross where there were 2 holes on 2 sides and 3 on the other I ended up cutting them all down except for the one part I needed. RE: B400 with DX7
What did you find you had to change from the settings in my guide?.
Mine was setup using stock servos, and the orig receiver config. So it was a setup for stock to a dx7i |

So it was a setup for stock to a dx7i Mine is all stock. I have not changed anything. The settings that I had to change were. Servo reversing, I had to change channel 2,3,and 4 I also had to change the swash mix to -85 pitch. you had it as +85 Do you fly 3D, have you tested out the pitch curve? The only thing i notice from flying the DX7 against my DX6i is the throttle stick seems to be higher when I fly but I guess thats because of the pitch curve that I programmed in from your setup guide. Apart from that its sweet.[sm=teeth_smile.gif] DrunkYoda. Thanks for servo advice. I have ordered 4 HS56HB from the web as my LHS doesnt stock them. I like the idea of those servos as you can replace the gears instead of the whole unit. so it work out cheaper really. Can I use that servo on the tail? I'm hoping you can as it only has a stock servo at the moment so its got to be better. I cannot afford to replace the gyro buy I will when I get a bit better at flying. So far the gyro seems to hold ok. This is what I ordered, hope I've got the right thing. Hitec HS-56HB Micro Servo (HS-56HB] Hitec HS-56HB Karbonite Gear Set[PN 55007] Thanks again for your help. |

I will have to add a note to my guide about the on the dx6i setup it does recommend -85, but when I put like that the cyclic was backwards while every other control was fine. Therefore I had to put the swash setting at +85. Simply reversing the servo would work because it would mess up the collective. But anyway, Im glad you are up an running. Im chasing a little tail issue myself. My heli wants to rebound in heading hold mode. In normal mode it wants to spin fast, so im trying to resolve that. |
RE: B400 with DX7
Oh forgot to add I do not fly 3d yet. Im just doing forward/backward flight, side to side.
and starting nose in. I wont do 3d until I can nose it, but right now I can't. Need more stick time. |
RE: B400 with DX7
You shouldn't need anything but the servo, it comes with the servo horns.
DY This servo is borderline on being tail, you are looking for less .12 response time usually. I think this is exactly that. |
RE: B400 with DX7
I see. thanks , I will leave the tail one as it is for now. The other bits are replacement gears for when I next strip them.
Did a silly thing. I took out the one way bearing without checking what way it went.[sm=red_smile.gif] I have put it back in. if you turn rotor head clockwise both main cogs spin, anti clockwise only one spins. Could you please check that for me.? Thanks. |
