Default How to setup a DX7i on a BLADE400.

Well you would think that using a dx6i and dx7i would be the same. Just the 2 radios up the same way and bind the one you want to use and go fly. Well Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Even Specktrum, and Horizon couldn't tell me why. They just said it takes a little more "monkeying." After posting and not getting a 100% answer, I figured I would document what works.

Before getting stated make sure you have the following connections at the receiver. Note - when i am referencing servos I am viewing the heli from the tail.

Aux 1 - bottom left servo just infront of gyro
Gear - single yellow gain wire from gyro.
Rudd - 4 wire connector from gyro.
Elev - wire going to forward left servo just in front of the motor.
Aile - top right servo infront of gyro
Thro- wire going to speed control.
Batt - not connected

Now make sure all the black wires line up to the - sign on the receiver. The single yellow wire connector goes in the same orientation as the orange wires.

DX7i Setup

1) Press down and the select button while turning model on
2) Use increase/decrease to select an empty model
3) Use access up to get to the menu that selects heli/plane, use increase to set that to Heli
4) Use access button and goto swash type menu, choose 3 servo 120 degree
5) Trainer, Thro recover should both be set to IHN
6) Goto input select menu, set Aux2 to F-Mod, set Gear to Gyro
7) Hit the select and menu botton at the same time to exit this mode of setup

Setting mode

1) Press down and select to get to D/R & Expo menu
2) POS 0, Aile, Exp (your preference around +40% for beginner really helped me), D/R 90%
3) POS 1, Aile, LIN, D/R 90%
4) POS 0, Elev, Exp (your preference around +40% for beginner really helped me), D/R 90%
5) POS 1, Elev, LIN, D/R 90%
6) Rudd POS 0&1 Lin, D/R 100%
7) Auto D/R Exp - all 4 items set to INH
8) Reverse CH's 2 & 4
9) Sub trim is up to you to work, suggest youtube videos for howto. Mine flys good at all 0's in this area. Yours might be a little different.
10) Travel adjust. All area are 100 both ways except RUDD which is L90 R90.
11) Swash Mix, Aile -75 Elev +75 Pit. +85. 3 servos 120 degrees, exp inh
12) Thro hold, hold pos 0.0% S/W Aile D/R, You can put it on a different switch but this is what I liked.
13)
Throttle Curve -EXP OFF
Norm L - 0.0, P1 - INH, P2 - 50%, P3 - INH, H - 100%
ST-1 L - 100%, P1 - 92.5%, P2 - 85%, P3 - 92.5%, H - 100%
ST-2 L - 100%, P1 - 92.5%, P2 - 85%, P3 - 92.5%, H - 100%

Pitch Curve - EXP OFF
Norm L - 35%, P1 - 42.5%, P2 - 50%, P3 - 75.0%, H - 100%
ST-1 L - 0%, P1 - INH, P2 - 50%, P3 - INH, H - 100%
ST-2 L - 0%, P1 - INH, P2 - 50%, P3 - INH, H - 100%
Hold L - 35%, P1 - 42.5%, P2 - 50%, P3 - 75.0%, H - 100%
14) Timer, down-t, 8mins if just hovering, 4:30 if flying around, once you are familar with your batteries, you can change these. Just hovering I was at about 10 mins.
15) I leave revo mix alone
16) GYRO Sens, Rudd D/R, 0:67 1:50
17) Prog.mix1,2, and 3 inh

Preflight Check

Turn TX On making sure the b400 model is selected.
Once on make sure throttle hold ( aile d/r sw) is on.
Plug in charged b400 batt

INPUT (stick/direction) | Look for

left / forward swashplate to lower
left / down swashplate to raise
right / forward swashplate to tilt forward
right / down swashplate to tilt toward the rear(tail)
right / right swashplate to tilt right
right / left swashplate to tilt left
left / left tail pitch slider moves right
left / right tail pitch slider moves left

Thats it, don't fly unless you verify these movements.

Good luck, please let me know if you found this helpful.

Thanks for that, i did just think it was a case of binding the new DX7 and the rest was automatic, didnt realise all those had to be verified [)]

Glad you found it helpful, I wish it was just a case of bind it, but its not for some reason.

I have just tried your dx7 setup and i'm having a problem with the throttle settings when I push it forward it should lower ,instead it tilts forward and when you pull back it tilts towards the tail instead of raising. All of the other movements seem to be correct. If you have any thoughts on this I could sure use the help. Thanks

Make sure your swash mixes are set properly. Some are POSITIVE and some are NEGATIVE.

11) Swash Mix, Aile -75 Elev +75 Pit. +85. 3 servos 120 degrees, exp inh

If those are correct, go to REVERSE menu.

8) Reverse CH's 2 & 4

Mine is set up differently though. I have 2-3 and 4 reversed and all of my swash mixes in the negatives.

old school....

Are your elev and ail correct? when you push up (right stick) your back 2 should go up, and your front go down and vice versa for down. When you go right, the right one should drop and the left go up, and once again... vice versa for left.

Try playing with your servo reverse settings until your right stick works... then I would imagine your left would work fine.

Default RE: How to setup a DX7i on a BLADE400.

My swash mix is Aile -75 Elev +75 Pit. +85. 3 servos 120 degrees, exp inh and channel 2& 4 are reversed. Would it make sense to change the swash mix values. The rudder control is good ,I pulled the reciever out again to verify that all servos where plugged in according to the setup on this page. I have spooled the heli up and at half stick the swash plate is level, but at full throttle the swash plate pitches forward . shouldn't the swash plate just go down when you come up to full throttle and the opposite when pull the stick back. I thought I had two servos plugged in wrong but that wasn't the case. I somtimes wished I never changed radios. I tried reversing the throttle servo but the radio or heli just beeps and does nothing . Thats why I can't figure this out the throttle works as far as spooling it up but the swash plate isn't or doesn't appear to be right in its movement.

Well having gone through the issue with the same idea in mind, I'll offer a thought that I've since learned in playing with heli's;

You can't just put the numbers from on tx into another tx and have it work with a heli. The settings are just too critical. If you're going to change radios, then you need to go through the setup with the new tx. Going from a similar radio like the DX6i to a DX-7 and using the DX6i's travel settings will get you close, but close doesn't work on a heli as you've found out.

Oh, the other thing is that even with the same hardware, one guy's settings won't be exactly the same as another's.

It appears that the elev and throttle are backwards but yet they seem to be plugged into the reciever correctly. could you tell me what you have pluggeg into what so I can re-verify .

Go to eflite website and download blade 400 bind and fly manual. It has all set up numbers for Dx6 Dx7 and 9303.This is not in the rtf manual.

bart-tec,

Thanks for the tip on the DX7 for 400 manual.

For others here, this is the direct link, about page 11 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ID=EFLH1475eow

I have also attached the file for you below.

If you have Hitec 65 servos here is the only difference. In the REVERSE menu only 2 3 5 are rev.

Thanks Again!

Thanks for the tip. I have found these setting are not correct for a cp pro 2.
