Default Batt question

Hi guys, I have a dumb question. I just recieved a HL-J5 with a 7.4v batt. I have several 11.4 batts from other ships. Can I use one of them while the other recharges, OR will it smoke the esc????? Thanks for your advice. John

Default RE: Batt question

As long as you do not exceed the current or voltage ratings of any component, yes you can. Just check the voltage and current rating of your motor, then of your ESC and make sure the C rating of the battery is high enough to provide the resulting current draw.

Default RE: Batt question

Remember that the 3S pack will try to spin the motor 50% faster than the 2S pack. This will cause a HUGE leap in amp draw.

Possible outcomes:

Damage the battery pack
Damage the motor
Smoke the ESC.

Generally when you go to a 3S pack from a 2S pack on the same motor you have to change the prop. In this case I would think you would go 2" smaller and 2" shallower.

So, if you are using a 10X8 on the 2S you would go to a 8X6 on the 3S.

I would want to put a wattmeter on it to be sure.

This is the one i use.

Iactually do thison one of my e-gliders. On a 2SIgo to an 11X8 and it draws 20 amps. On 3S Irun a 10X6 for 28 amps. The motor, battery and ESCare rated for this. Iam going to try at 12X8 or something like that to see if Ican get the draw up to 28 amps.
