Default Ares Crossfire Quad question

As a complete noob to quads I am hoping someone can help me or direct me to a forum where I may be able to get some help. I bought an Ares Crossfire racing quad. Went through and did everything the directions said to do....double and triple checked everything. When I spool up the motors only two of the four turn. I am using a Dx7 with an AR8000 receiver. I'm in mode two so the throttle is on the left stick. If I mess with the switches maybe one other motor will turn....I hit another switch and two motors turn off and the other two turn on. It doesn't make sense. What could cause this? I configured everything the way it said...did what it said using a specktrum transmitter...just can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
