The motor/gearbox/prop combination recommended by Great Planes is incorrect. The gear ratio should be 3:1, not 1.7:1. With the 1.7:1 ratio, the motor is drawing too many Amps and gets very hot.

I put a t400gd system, with a 3:1 gearbox on it with a 30 amp speed controller with an 8 cell 9.6v 700mah battery. How does that set up sound? How does this plane fly?[8D] Thanx for the input!

It is very quick, somewhat like an ugly stick. The verticle tail feathers like to break on any rough landing. Had to brace it with monofilament fishing line struts. It will float with any amount of breeze and will punch thru in a brisk wind. Have fun!!!!

I am building a Fundango now and was wondering if I could possibly use the power system from my Soarstar..its a 400 motor and 15A esc.... I'm not sure of the gearing in the standard Soarstar but if its close to 3:1 I suppose it would be ok....The only thing is since the Soarstar is a pusher application, can I just reverse the pos and neg wires to the motor to get it to turn counterclockwise and use a prop of my choice instead of the one that was on there to push the Soarstar?

I just flew my fundango for the first time yesterday. a piece of advice: listen to the instructions when they say use the lowest movement rate on the control horns and servos until you're used the the flight characteristics. this thing rolls really friggin fast (I pulled off three continuous snap-rolls in about one second), and if you're not experienced in aerobatic flyers (as I am not) there is way too much control surface, far too much throw.
I'm having weird power cutoff issues even on a fresh battery charge when I climb aggressively with throttle on full. the power just kills for a second then comes right back. I only cycled my batteries once or twice before flying, so I'm going to fully cycle them a few more times and check all my connections and give it another try.
my config:
400watt motor
3:1 gearbox
electrifly 5channel rx with 30a ESC
batteries tried (great planes electrifly):
700mAh 8 cell
1100mAh 8 cell
the aerobatics weren't really improved noticeably with the 700mAh pack, but flighttime was substantially longer with the 1100mAh pack, I think I'll pick another one of those up.
