timing Kyosho Endo
Hi Folks,
Heard about the hot set-up for Hobbico EP using a Kyosho Endo. , GP 600 gearbox, 10 tooth pinion, 8cell x2400 CP nicad, 12x8 prop. My question is this, do I have to time the motor? If so, what does this mean and how do you go about doing it?By the way, the Hobbico Ep is the new version with ailrons just in stock from Tower.

RE: timing Kyosho Endo
You aren't required to time it, but you gain two things from doing so:
1. The + wire from the ESC will go to the + terminal on the motor.
2. A bit of a performance boost.
Just like timing a car engine by rotating the distributor, you time a BRUSHED electric motor by rotating the endbell. The point is to get the electromagnet portion of the motor (the rotor) to switch polarity at the best possible moment as each rotor arm swings past a permanent magnet.
Go to www.gwmp.net (hope I got the URL right) and download the instructions for the E3D. These instructions include an excellent procedure for roughly timing the Endoplasma motor for reverse rotation.

RE: timing Kyosho Endo
Hmm. Must be another run on Endos. There was a problem like this a couple of years ago during the Gary Wright E3D craze, and Tower was out of Endos for months.
The problem is, if Tower is out, EVERYBODY in the USA is out. Endoplasmas are not normally stocked by hobby shops, because they're not a particularly popular car motor. Tower is the retail outlet of Great Planes, the exclusive distributor of Kyosho in the USA, and their stock is Great Planes's stock.
