Default ? about speed controllers battery limits

I just got a ultrafly cessna and the description says it can run a 8-10 cell pack, my esc however says its for up to 8 cells. If I were to hook up a ten cell pack to my esc would it destroy it?

I wouldn't risk it. 8 cells should be plenty to fly that plane anyway.
