RE: Motors with built on controllers
the graupner mini piper motor comes with its esc soldered directly to motor...it does look like it can be taken off...but im assuming you have to make sure you remount it on another motor that wont draw to many amps..I belive the mini piper motor was a 280 speed..so id imagine you couldnt use the speed controller mounted on that motor on a much more high powwered motor ..

Studysession: go search Hobby Lobby's web site for Graupner "PLUS" motors. Graupner makes a Speed 280 and a Speed 400 PLUS motor; both come with the ESC soldered directly onto the motor.

RE: Motors with built on controllers
I have a Graupner Terry and an E-flite Ascent that use the 400 PLUS. Just because they take up less space, and those planes have pretty cramped fuses. The only "minus" with these setups is that they come with Graupner battery connectors installed, so a Sermos transplant was needed right out of the box. But I have had no problems at all with them: two seasons on the Ascent, and three on the Terry. The motors are still good, so I can't speak about replacing them, but it's just two solder joints on the motor terminals as far as I can tell. There may be noise capacitors hidden from view, but that's no big deal.
