Default Help with brushless setup

Hey guys I hope someone can help me I have just made the jump to brushless motors and I need a little help I bought a Himaxx 2015-4166 brushless motor and a Phoenix 10 speed control for my gws P51 and I have some questions the motor came with three different gear ratios 4.43:1 5.33:1 and 6.6:1 but I do not know which gears are what gear ratio the packages include 3 spur gears a 66 tooth with pinion a 62 tooth with pinion and a 64 tooth with pinion but the directions do not say which one is which. also I am wondering where to start with props on this setup this is my first brushless setup and I do not want to do anything wrong so any help will be much appreciated

Thanks guys

Gear ratio is easy to figure out. You take the number of teeth on the spur and divide by the number of teeth on the pinion.

6.6:1 is probably the 66-tooth spur with a 10-tooth pinion: 66/10 = 6.6
5.33:1 is probably the 64-tooth spur with a 12-tooth pinion: 64/12 = 5.33
4.43:1 is probably the 62-tooth spur with a 14-tooth pinion: 62/14 = 4.43

As presented, you can basically use any size prop you want... You didn't say which battery you were going to use. With no battery the prop isn't going to spin, so it doesn't really matter what size you use; you'll never overload the motor

Seriously, the battery is the most important piece here. If you've got a pack in mind already, that is going to tell us what size props are appropriate.

I know the 12x6 is a good 3D setup with a 3S LiPoly and 6.6:1 gear ratio, but I'm guessing you want something more warbird-like as far as speed.

Correct thank you very much for the help with the gear ratios that makes a lot more sense to me now you are right I do want the scale like looks and speed the batteries I am using are the gws 8.4 730 mah packs I have been looking at the lipolys but am a little afraid of them still I have heard a lot of stories of them catching on fire so anyway now that you know what batteries I am using hopefully you can help with a starting point with props thanks very much for the help

hobby shop told me today that all lipolys are going to do for me is increase flight time but no more power is this true

thanks again

I've heard of houses burning down, but I still live in one

I don'w think your battery will be able to provide the amps/watts needed by that brushless setup
lipoly can provide higher voltage/amperage/wattage (usually) for MUCH less weught

Try it out, but I just don't think that little battery pack will be able to handle it

The Maxx website has excellent charts for all the gear drive setups telling you what batteries and props they recommend; when in doubt, ask the mfg/distributor....Jim
