Default Anyone got an "E3D"?

Gary,
Maybe this is your plane. It's posted on a Yahoo site. The plane looks larger than a 48" wingspan. Is this a larger version of the E3D that you developed? I still can't get a photo posted on here, keep getting an error message saying something wrong with the RCU database. Try this link for the photo:

forgot that picture was still out there That was actually the original, scratch-built plane that I called the "E3D". It was scaled down a bit, from 64" to 48 " span, and "refined" through several prototypes, for the current kit. The kit looks very little like that original after all the changes. It does, however, fly much better, although differently. That plane was 64" span, 1152 squares, 70 inches long, and was 4.5 lbs ready to fly with an endoplasma and 10 cells. There is a video of it at www.squid-ink.com entitled "64 inch slowflyer". One day I'll get around to enlarging the E3D to that size and kitting a version at 64",.. but I have a much larger project in the works right now that I have to finish first.

Ok, thanks Gary. Is there a wait time for the E3D kit at the present time? I'm new to electric and just got a Crazy Max. I plan on flying it for the first time since the weather is getting nice. If I like electric then I plan on ordering your E3D. I've only flown glow so just want to make sure I like electric flight before I spend a bunch. The Crazy Max was pretty cheap!

no wait time, we have kits in stock right now. We also have endoplasmas, GD600 gearboxes,.. and if you want the "ferrari" of motors, we have the hacker C40 12 turn motor, and hacker 40-3P speed control.

Here's the photo I was trying to post earlier but kept getting an error. Let's see if it will post now. Supposedly Marc fixed the problem.

Default Brushless combo on the E3D

Hey Gary-I tried to call you the other night. I just got a Mega 22/20/2 brushless motor, Hacker Masters 40-3P controller, 5:1 Mega gearbox swinging a 16x10 prop using a 10 cell 3000mAh pack. It's not a cheap setup but it has some mean thrust.
Should probably be using a 18x?. But the landing gear are to short! I've bent mine as far down as possible for prop/ground clearance. I need a longer set of landing gear.
This setup pretty much went straight up after a couple of feet rollout. I kept a bit of up elevator as I started rolling out so it did not catch a wheel and nose over. Well as I increased throttle with the up elevator it just went up and almost over. I eased off the elevator and it just kept climbing.
Unfortunately, the gear box got chunked within a couple of minutes. Not sure what happened. I think maybe one of the planetary gears hung up on the internal spacer washer and this gouged the gearbox back plate. I'm not sure what happened. It sounded like the plane was running on nitro-very loud. I landed pretty darn quick. I'm going to clean up, re-lube and hopefully reuse the gear box.
In the few minutes of flight I had the plane did not self destruct or so I'll keep flying it!
See ya-Scott

Karen and i went to the TPC (golf tournament) at Jacksonville, due to a last minute invitation from bellsouth. They paid for a really nice suite, access to the tournament, their courtesy tent, etc, and I couldn't pass it up

Got your message on the machine, but haven't got all the calls returned yet. I have a wire bender, so i could hand-bend a custom set of landing gear if you want, for more prop clearance. I haven't ran one of the mega boxes yet, so i'm not familiar with their durability. Gimme a call this evening, i should be at home,.. I started covering on the next project last night, and plan on continuing tonight.

Default E3Nova

Hey Gary-
Also, I've not really started my Morris Hobbies Balsa Nova so...the next best thing. An E3Nova. A little bit of hacksaw action and it's the closest thing I'll get to a Balsa Nova for awhile. I hope your not offended by the plane bashing. :-)

I've talked to many people at hobby shops about you gary wright and they said that you flew the hacker in those videos on your site. They sure do sound like Hackers.

I do fly lots of hackers, but both the kwik-e and E3D videos on my site are with endoplasmas. The videos at www.rccraze.com are with hackers in all those planes. there's a rather good E3D video on the rccraze site, so you could view it, and the one on my site (with endoplasma) , and see the difference.
