Default Electric Sig Rascal 40

I recently acquired a SIG Rascal 40 that was set up as an electric. The plane included a Phasor 45/3 brushless motor, Jeti optp 70 Esc, an FMA LVA , a receiver battery and wiring to connect two batteries (LiPos) in series. The 70 amp ESC seems a bit overkill and actually, i believe, does not function. I have a Castle Creations Phoenix 45 that I would like to use in its place. My question is this, do Ineed to use the separator receiver battery and do I need to use the LVA. Can I simplify this set up a bit? I am kinda new to electrics so am not overly familiar with what is needed to operate the larger motors.

Thanks,

Victor
