Default Old version, GP ElectriCub?

Anyone built, and flown, the original Great Planes ElectriCub? I have one coming, bought, of course, off ebay. I have a small brushless motor/ ESC swinging a 9" prop, that powered a foamy Tribute and I wonder if it will power the Cub. The motor is labled "2410-12" -which frankly means nothing to me! On a 11.1, 750mah Lipo, it would pull the foamy straight up. This has some brushed motor with it. It supposedly has a has a 58/59" w.s. I think the new version has ailerons, this version is a 2 servo job. Any ideas? Bill

You're going to need more than that to fly the Electricub. As I recall that's a pretty big and heavy plane. The setup you've got, you're talking maybe 150 Watts tops, and the Electricub comes out close to 3lbs IIRC.

Off the top of my head I think I'd run at least an Eflite Power .15 or equivalent motor, and a 3S 2200mAh pack. Something that puts you in the 250-300 Watt range.

Thanks for the tip! Yes, 3 to 3 1/2 lbs is what it's supposed to weigh. I tend to build on the heavy side, so guess I better be looking at something bigger. I do want to fly it scale like slow. I hate to see those 200 mph Cubs out there!

I have one of these electricubs, and mine flies great with a small brushless motor. I was using the stock giant brushed motor and nimhd and it sucked. Recently put in a himaxx 2025 4200 geared 5.3/1 with a gws 12/8 prop cut to 9 inches, 3s 2100mah lipo and cc pheonix25 esc. Swithed mini servos to submicro servos, hitec hs55's I think offhand. Shed about a pound of weight, but had to add nose weight to balance, so switched to multiplex 480 6d geared 2.1/1 using a 9/6 prop. Still had to have some nose weight so I used a seperate rx pack instead of bec. Flies really well now, but wanted ailerons, soooo...made a foam wing with same chord, but a thinner airfoil from a sailplane. Added flaps on one servo and used 2 servos for barndoor ailerons. Now am very happy with flying it. Does scale like rolls, flies inverted, nice snap rolls(not really snappy though). With sailplane airfoil it flies fast if you want, but slows wwaaayyy down for cruising and glides a long way power off but slows nicely with flaps down 25 degrees and ailerons up a few degrees. If you go lipo and brushless, it soesn't take much to fly this bird with the saved weight, so try what you have and see if you like it, I did!

Your description made me think of something. A few years back I flew full size and U/L. My favorite flying machine was a Flightstar Ultralight, just pure fun, flying a GA Cherokee, or Cessna, as I did, was work!. Always wanted to build an RC version of the F;ightstar! Your Cub sounds like just a plain fun-to-fly plane. That's pretty cool, a sailplane wing! I have a couple in the shop. You're right, I think I'll try what I have. When they describe the weight of the Cub, they're using the weight with the old motor/nicad combo.....like adding lead weight. I just really want this to putt about with, without having to pack up and go to a field. The little motor I have would haul that foamy straight up. For something different, think I'm going to cover this as an L-4 Grasshopper, already have 2 Yellow Cubs.
