Default Need conversion info

I'm an old-new to RC flight. The last time I flew was back in the 80's and electric ran the lights in your house. I boughta powered electric rc sail plane and it's nice. I have an ARF 182 skylane made of balsa like old times and I have a new radio for it but I would like to go electric. Now what would be the replacement size motor, speed controler and batteries ( lipo), for a 45 size nitro motor. HELP I've read some of the comments and there nice but I'm to old for that stuff, just some one give me some plian talk info. Jim

You would be better off to buy a plane designed for electric power. It is not easy to convert most glow planes to electric. It is hard to get the batteries in the right place to balance the plane and then there is no hatch unless to make one to get the batteries in and out. Don't get me wrong it can be done and has been lots of times just most of the time not easy.

I think your looking for around 1000 watt motor like the E-flite Power 46 motor, a Castle Creation 60 amp speed control and about 4-5 cell 2500-3000 mah battery. This is just a rough guide to start with. Cheaper gear can be had at Hobby City.

I have never converted a glow to electric or even flown a glow so I am not the best to trust. Hopefully some more experienced dudes with chime in.

Cheers
Bob

Check out the site below. If you have any other questions, Jeff at HeadsUp is a wealth of information regarding power options and is very helpful to advise you choose the proper Motor/ESC/Battery and Prop.

I should said you need two 4-5 cell 2500-3000 batteries or one 4-5 cell 5000-6000mah batteries.
