looks good if you've got yourself some thin balsa, you can swap out the heavy cardstock and shave quite a bit of weight. the cardstock wings and other parts would make for perfect templates, i'll have to remember to look for the white wings next time i'm at the LHS. looks like its got a small span, 8 inches? i bet she's fast

edit: we were typing at the same time so i was right, she's quick. thats what i'd call a "3/4 flyer" as in, it takes at least 3/4 throttle to stay in the air!

Thats pretty cool monster.

I have many of the White Wings gliders and have thought the AA gear should be able to fly them.

Fact, I was talking to Spinmasters about that similar subject.
Thought it would be cool if they sold the RC gear separately as a kit with paper airplanes, and the White wings kits were brought up.
Mentioned about having downloadable aircraft from there website.

Don't think it will happened but it would be nice.[8D]

Has anyone tried taking a paper airplane plan and make it from thin balsa(1/32) and put an AA in it?

Just reinforce the paper one with some balsa sticks and mount the AA gear. That should be pretty quick build.

I could build a balsa frame that replicates it and cover it with plastic wrap. that sould make a pretty slow flyer.

I have built a couple of these gliders with manila file folders. They glide great.

You can get the plans for these type paper planes for free at the library in books on paper planes. I've seen the kit at the hobby store for about $14.00. Personally, I'd rather spend the cash on r/c equipment.

I saw the above pics! Really cool stuff. I've never messed with micro... can you fill me in a bit? Can I use a full size transmitter? Like my jr 9303? Can you explain the components used for conversion... what type of rx, and motors etc... also where can I buy them? Thanks!

the electronics are from the AirHogs AeroAce, two 5.3ohm 6mm coreless motors, one 130mah lipo, and a 2 channel thrust differential RX/ESC. the signalling is propriatary, so only the AAs TX will communicate with the RX (unfortunately). a very small handful of people have made their own TXs though, but they had to do all the programming, ect, for it to work. all it takes is about 5 minutes to remove the electronics from the AA and even less time to reinstall the electronics into your own plane. the two motors together put out around 10 grams of thrust, so you'll need a total weight of 25 grams or less (the electronics weigh 10-12 grams, so that leaves you 10+ grams for the airframe). they're selling the AAs just about everywhere now-days, walmart, k-mart, target, toys r us. prices are 20-40 bucks depending on where you go and if they have a sale going on.
