Default Pico Z Problem

Hi, I have a Pico z which keeps cutting out above half throttle.
If i remove the tail rotor it runs ok but if i put any pressure on the tail motor shaft then it stops.
There is no fluff or hairs causing it to bind up,so any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

club20 racer.

Hi club,
Try blowing thru the on/of switch of the heli with a can of compressed air. Seems that dirt, dust, and other matter tends to collect in and around the power switch and/or IR sensor. Otherwise, check the Tx joy stick rotary contacts for dirty or fouled contacts.

You are welcome club. BTW, the Tx joy stick contacts are rotary, not sliding (my mistake). As a last resort, try using a few drops of "051 Pastics Safe Electronics Cleaner NF" by www.greenchem.com. This product is non flammable, non conductive, and is safe for foam. I used this on my PZ on/off switch the other day and it runs much better. It has more power and the blue light is much brighter. It also needs very little right trim now. This makes me think that the switch was dirty from day one. That, of course, was most likely causing excesive resistance which in turn was shutting the PZ down. HTH.

Default RE: Pico Z Problem

Same happened to my Pico-z. I followed the advise above but the problem did not disappear.

By looking closely I noticed that the tail motor vibrated (left-right). This caused it to exprience too much friction above a certain speed of the main rotor, and this friction triggered the safety mechanism for stopping all motors during a crash. The only difference beeing that during a crash the rotor(s) become(s) blocked altogether.

Taking the tail rotor of, the cause of the vibration was seen to be some disbalance of the main rotor, which shaft heavily shook already at low speeds. Using bluetag - and a lot of patience in finding the right amount and position on one of the blades - the unbalance was cured and the main shaft and the tail became stable.

But I am not sure whether this is due to a diminished lift for the blade where the bluetag was stuck to, or to a the mass which was added to that blade

But putting the tail rotor blades on again the problem appeared to have been cured.

Hope this helps for you too.

After a crash today the controller is acting very strange. Sometimes the heli lifts off at zero throttle and as you advance the throttle it slows down and at full throttle the helicopter experiences full throttle .. its like an electrical problem .. with no 'stop'

All components look fine, tailrotor works fine, batteries have been changed for new ones but problem persists.

Has anyone heard of this problem?

Do you think this is the result of the switch issue?

I found the problem.

Instead of deleting this post I will leave this up so that if it happens to anyone else they know how to fix it.

The controller was at fault and not the picooz helicopter.

After I took apart the controller I realised that the throttle circuit board contacts had 'ripped' somehow. Basically a bit of the circuit board foil had come loose and was shorting the heli to full throttle when the stick was at idle.

I had to remove the throttle mechanism, take it apart and clean the contacts by wiping off the pieces of broken foil. I also bent one contact half a mm to make sure that it was going to work as it looked as if that was where the foil had ripped from.

For more info send me a message and I can explain further.

I removed the throttle spring at the same time and find that flying altitude wise is much easier now. Everything works fine.

Take Care
