I've been slowly getting micro gear for this little project. It is a scaled up version of the micro pitts by Chris O'Reilly. The original has a ws of 12 inches and weighs about 24grams. As it was going to cost me $80 to ship plantraco gear I scaled it up to 125%. WS is 15" ,AUW is 48.9grams without pushrods.

I chose the nuke airbourne flightpack - 2.8g servos, 1.8g speedie and 3 g Rx. I have had real drama's getting such small stuff in Australia but was just given two mico-actuators by my LHS, after I bought the flight pack. Sure would've liked the platraco gear.... I could've made the plane smaller and much lighter. I could only get the 1 cell ESC here. Hope it flies!!!

nice work
did you use tissue paper for the color, or did you paint it? is it balsa?
i have the same set of plans and have always meant to build one, but never got around to it. what size of motor are you using?
let us know how that nuke airbourne flightpack works out, looks like a nice little kit.
keep us posted

The 'Nuke' gear is supposed to be the same as the Hobby People's Micro-Joule gear. I have a bunch of it bought under that name, and it works fine. It is a little heavier than some gear, but real easy to install. You will notice that the servo arms move on their posts - they are supposed to. The wsscrew is there just to keep them from falling off. When they give in a crash, that is to protect the tiny gear train which is a real bear to try and fix. See if you can get one of the 2-cell ESCs for the system. It will allow you to run an extra cell and develop more serious power if you need it.

Thanks for the compliments Nick, It goes together fast.
Mike, There are no 2 cell esc's in Aust and the importer has no plans to get them in [&o]..... This is after telling me they had them in stock and I ordered it only for the 1 cell ESC to arrive. I have grave doubts my motor (dragonfly tail rotor motor) will provide enough grunt direct drive and am hoping to find a gearbox setup.
If I scaled it up some more I would have heaps of stuff for it and many more options but then it would lose the 'cuteness' factor.

I forgot to mention I tried postbox red food dye which gave it a really washed out colour. I ended up settling for a light misting of spray paint on th etop surfaces and fuse.... added hardly any weight as it just deepened the red.

I'm still waiting!! My lhs forgot to order it!
I don't know if it will fly direct drive but have no luck sourcing a gearbox/motor combo small enough for it. I've got a gws dragonfly tail rotor motor and one about half the weight I got out of a toy RC blimp I think its the N20 style motor. The GWS motor will put the AUW over 60g's so I'm not really sure.
If I had the xtal at least I could try each and see how it goes.... The suspense is killing me!

Finally got the xtal BUT the ESC is stuffed! My LHS will replace it for me even though I glued it into the plane, so had to cut it out.
Thanks for the advice Nitro, I kinda figured I would need the gearbox after reading your micro moth thread. I guess the GWS motor it is, even if AUW goes to 60g+
