You know, I just have not been into many of the new F3A airplanes, but I actually like the looks of this one! Gonna check out F3AUnlimited's site and take a look (and see how over budget this plane is).

Thanks Joe! I am really glad that you like it. Hopefully it's in the budget for you!

RE: CAELESTIA NEW F3A 2011
Hi, Chad:
What are the specs on the ball links and the turnbuckle lengths?
Secraft M3 or 4-40?
Just to be clear, you like the CG at the center of the wing tube?
Can you scan some 1:1 pdf's of the rudder servo and battery tray? I have the material to make these.
Any firewall templates out there for a back-mounted motor such as pletty 30-09 or Himax 6330?
Thank you very much,

Hi, Chad:
Are you finding that the small air inlets and the "shark gill" air vents on the fuse sides provide adequate cooling now that the weather has warmed up a bit?
Per my previous post, do you have or can you make a 1:1 pdf of the rudder tray? I can figure it out but this would save some time.
Thank you,

Hi Bob,
Sorry I missed your last post!
The links are all 4-40, using H9 links. I think the length was either 1.5" or 2", but I would have to check to be certain.
Yes the CG is on the center of the tube, that is where I have been flying mine.
I don't have any templates for a firewall. For the rudder tray ZN did the tray, and I didn't take a trace of it before I installed it so I don't have a template for it. Sorry!
For the cooling, I added one small hole maybe 1/2"-3/4" round in the chin just under the spinner to help get more air to the ESC. Otherwise it has been fine. I have been flying in as warm as about 80-85F with it, so its not Muncie heat yet, but to date no issues with the stock exits and the small extra inlet.
Hope that helps!

I do as much stuff as possible ahead of time. Already got the radio programmed and servos centered and direction confirmed, made my 4-wire elevator servo extension, etc. The VHVBEC should arrive Saturday via USPS as well as the MPI no-spark arming switch (Hold your nose, JLachow!) I've shortened the wires on the Tech-Aero reg, and other things like the spinner backplate hole opened up and spinner cut for the prop. Bullets on the motor wires, and on and on. There are so many little things that can be accomplished without having the airframe in hand!

Actually, I have an itch for a BIpe, but at the prices they go for I don't think so.

RE: CAELESTIA NEW F3A 2011
Picked up the Caelestia this morning from JLachow (Thanks, Joe!) and basically like what I see so far.
My model did not come with any control horns and there are no pre-cut slots in the ailerons, elevators or rudder, so that is something I will have to figure out.
The aileron and elevator gaps are pretty substantial and will have to be sealed. Gonna have to figure out how to do it and what material to use. It's composite so I don't think there is an iron-on solution.
Weights: Right wing 430.5g, left wing 413.9g, Canopy 97.5g, fuse 750.8g, Rudder 79.7g, left stab 121.2g, right stab 127.9g
SO... I will take any advice I can get concerning the control horn situation and the aileron gaps.
TIA
EDIT: Oops, found the control horns... now how/where to make the slots.

Hi Bob,
With a gap that big you may want to consider thin foam tape with adhesive on one side. It can be cut into small strips (~3mm wide) with a sharp hobby knife. Then place between the hinges. This is what I used on my Spark Dynamic rudder. The foam seals the gap and complies with both surfaces.
Regards,
Jason.

Hi Bob,
Picture of my gap sealed, just some tape or vinyl and roll it into the gap. Fairly easy once you do it, and works fine.
For the horns, the ailerons and elevator have big blocks you can easily feel with your fingers, and the rudder has a support at 165mm from the bottom. Just cut the slot, put some poly u in the slot, spray the horn with water and stick it in.

RE: CAELESTIA NEW F3A 2011
Chad, I looked back through your construction photos and saw that there were no slots on your control surfaces, so I will use them as a reference for the location.
I have PU (gorilla) and Aeropoxy also. Normally I would use Aeropoxy, but if Gorilla is better I will use it. Apparently it is holding up well with your model!
Today the main job was the rudder tray (and Rx/reg/battery) and I got that done. Not nearly as hard as I thought it might be and it ended up weighing 13g, not including Aeropoxy to install. Did a few other small things and called it enough for today.

If you hold the surface up against a lamp, you can easily see the balsa blocks inside the surfaces.
Cheers,
Jason.
