Am I the only member here experiencing image viewing problems? Some attachments are visable but wont open to view and all others just have 'click here to view image' but when doing that I just get a whirly gig thingy and nothing happens?????

My guess is the advertisers on RCU are livid.
This site has major issues. I'm guessing they are working hard to fix them. In the meantime the public is growing in patient.
I'm stuck with IE at work. At home I use Chrome and it seems a lot better. Mike

I am quite disapointed with RCU at this time... I have several adds to place but will not, due to lack of ability to include photos !!

This is why I moved to RCGroups 2-3 years ago, just got frustrated with RCU reliability. Came back 9 months ago only because this is where the pattern community hangs out. For all other aspects of the hobby it's still RCG for me.

I have 2 more comments to make on this topic:
-I had a message from "RCKen" (Ken Isaac, the "bossman" atRCU) several days ago, saying the following things: This is what he said, from memory:
a. RCU was developed several yearsago, by the previous owners of RCU.
b. They also did their own programming for the RCU site -rather than employprofessional programmers
c. And it was a quite a bit of a mess

d. When "Internet Brands" took over RCU 1 to 2 years ago -they found that the programming for the site was very difficult to follow
e. Because of this, they keep having problems at RCU with servers not working properly, with the Picture Upload system going down repeatedly for long periods -and even on some threads, photos cannot be seen at all -presumably because of the broken and unreliable programming code on the RCU site.
f. "Internet Brands" (IB) have programmers working on trying to figure out the complex programming code of theRCU site -evidently ...

However, I note RCU was down for about 1 day yesterday
-and when it came back up, nothing had changed -the Picture Upload system was STILL NOT working ...

I have ALSO -like everyone else -been unable to upload pictures to RCU for many days now

<span style="font-size: medium"> -BUT THERE IS (AT LEAST) ONE OTHER WAY OF DOING IT -THAT WORKS VERY WELL ....
</span>see: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=11473588

This is how to do it:
1. Get a PHOTOBUCKET Account
2. Upload the photos you want to show on RCU, to PhotoBucket
3. To display the photo in an RCU post:
Insert this HTML code in the post, where you want the photo: " &lt;img src="URL of image" alt="Just in case" title="Tooltip"/&gt; "

4. WhereURL of imageis the "Direct Link" htmlcode, that you get from the photo on the Photobucket site (see "Image Links" -2nd one down ... )

<span style="font-size: small">It really is very very easy .... and it works great ....
</span><span style="font-size: x-small"> see: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11473040/tm.htm
</span>

Well, the RCU Picture Upload system seems to be "half working".
-It was just now possible to upload animage (it has not been poss for ~10 days ...) -BUT when I did, I could not see the imagein the post -there was just an empty rectangular box ...
-Like for the imageI tried to upload here ...

The Photobucket method is much better ....

It is strange that the owner of rcuniverse made changes in production environement without, as it seems, testing the changes in a test environment first (then they probably should have discovered most ofthe problems we as users now have to face):

<font size="2">"This past week in particular, RCU has been plagued with upload errors, down time, slow speeds and more. So why all the problems?

There are several reasons. The most important reason is that IB has been cleaning up and optimizing RCU's code in anticipation of being able to upgrade and serve you with a superior site for years to come."

</font>
<font size="2">I'm not sure they will have that many users left soon if the latest problems including dissapeared images in posts is not solved in near future. And I'm not sure that peopleselling things in Classifieds like that the images they have uploaded do not show.

No sir, I'm not saying that RCGroups is by far the most popular forum in the RC Hobby. But it does work for me. What do I mean by that? First off- I don't know of a time when the servers were down or that some funtionality of the forums (ie: picture uploads/downloads) have not worked (unlike RCU) so the RCU frustration level has been there. I also like the cross-section that RCGroups offers - glow, gas, scale, electric, gliders, old-timers, etc. Why not Fly Giants? I don't fly primarily large planes. Why not Watt-Flyer? Only in the last few months have I been primarily electric, and that came about mainly to fly pattern.

Interesting comment about going electric to fly pattern.

Irecall a few years ago when flying electric in pattern was quite a big deal. Had not been done in international competition until Jason Schulman did it. Maybe 2005/2006. They had the plane at the NEAT fair in NY and there was a big presentation on how they build it and what they had to do to get it under the 11 pound limit. In those days hot Lipos were 5C and wildly expensive. We have come a long way in that shorttime.

I can't remember if it was in this thread, or one of the many other on RCU about the image upload problem, where I promised that I would forward any information that I received in order to keep all of our members better informed. Anyway, whether I did or not I'm still going to give you guys the info that I have received.<div>
</div><div>I know that the image upload issue has been going of for a few days now, but I've got some info about what's going on. Earlier this week IB tried to migrate us to a faster server cluster in order to get better performance out of RCU. During that migration a storage device went bad and caused the entire migration to totally crater, which resulted in the "Pardon our dust" banner showing for a good part of Wednesday. The tech department restored to the pre-migration backup and decided to take care of the migration a couple of servers at a time, instead of all of them at once. They think that the image upload issue is tied in with the storage device that went bad and it should come back up and work properly once the server migration is completed. Unfortunately I don't have the target for that completion, but I know that they are working as fast as they can to take care of it. </div><div>
</div><div>So hopefully we'll get our images back working soon. I promise that if I receive any other news about this I will pass it on to you guys. </div><div>
</div><div>This week I have new communications with IB that I have never had before, so I promise that I will pass on every scrap of news that I can get for everybody. I know most of you don't like being a mushroom and I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure that you aren't treated like that from now on.</div><div>

It's been reported to me that the image upload issues have been resolved. As you can see here I have uploaded a picture, so hopefully everything is good now.

Going forward I plan on taking a more active role in being a conduit of information from our Tech Department when things like this happen. In addition, if at any time anybody has any questions or concerns about tech related issues on RCU please don't hesitate to PM me, I'll do everything within my power to address your concerns. That's what I'm here for guys!!!
