Default Lubing Neu gearbox

I just cleaned and relubed an old Neu/gearbox that has been on the shelf for a long time. It feels extremely draggy when I rotate it by hand from the spinner. Is that normal or is there such a thing as too much grease? It's been so long since I tried to turn one over that I don't recall how it is supposed to feel. Any advice?

Something sounds wrong, Jim. I can feel the extra viscosity after a lube (it doesn't spin freely), but not like you're describing.

If you can quite freely rotate the shaft before attaching the gear box to the motor, then the problem could be somewhere else.

Inquiring minds want to know.
Was this a real problem or just an OCD episode?

A lot of OCD I'm sure. My wife says I only have it when it comes to RC airplanes. I don't think she means that as a compliment.

I finally got around to firing up the motor yesterday. I didn't like the sound of it at idle but it seemed to be fine overall during a run-up in the garage. I'm so used to the sounds of the contra, I don't remember how the Neu/gearbox should sound. There was no indication it was over lubed, so I'll go ahead and fly it and see how it performs.
