Wasn't sure if this plane fell under the "pattern" catagory or not, but it looks like one. I acquired an original Electrostreak kit, not the ARF, and was wondering if anyone knew of a good brushless setup to replace the boat anchor Mabuchi 550 provided with the kit. I currently have some TP 2200 3C lipos, would a suitable motor work with these batteries?

What is that, a geared motor? The kit comes with a brushed direct drive 550 Goldfire motor, and a 7x6 prop. So do I want geared or DD for this? I'm thinking a Hacker B40 would be the closest thing to a brushed 550, if it were DD then I have no idea what prop or battery. I was hoping I'd be able to use a Thunder Power 2100 11.1 battery for this, it says 15C continuous, 24 burst. Do you know how big of a 3C lipo the guy was using?

I've had two Electrostreaks, both ARF's. In each, I replaced the motor with a Kyosho Magnetic Meyhem, a car motor. A cheap upgrade and plenty of power for $20. These have been discontinued. I have another in the cellar and will probably go brushless with it. The AXI 2820 mentioned in the previous thread is an outrunner and direct drive. I have a 2820 in an Ultra Stik 25E and have a 12x6 prop on it as recommended by Hobby Lobby. Haven't flown it yet but the battery is a 4400 Polyquest LiPo.

Holy cow, a 12" prop? That seem like a lot for a plane the size of the Electrostreak, especially DD. Isn't there a good brushless combo matched for a 8 or 9" prop? I'm guessing a LiPo for this plane is going to be $$$$$.

Tommygun.......don't second guess something that works...axi 2820/10 ..3S lithiums and an 11X8 prop. You will not get performance from a 7 or 8" prop.
Got a chance to actually try it yesterday....believe me it works.

I'm guessing he only hand launches it with no gear then. Is that 12" a folding prop? What make/capacity LiPo was he using?

I'm not sure of the capacity on the lithiums.
I believe the prop was an aeronaught.but a non folder would be my personal preference as it winds up pretty fast. yes he hand launches and has no landing gear. Tha fellow that owns it is a regular pattern competitor, and he bought it for a sport sorta practise plane.
it really works well for him...I may just have to get one myself after trying his.

I have built one, and put an AXI 1215/12 on a planetarian metal-gearbox in the nose. 3S 1600 LiPo, and it flew well. It have been put on the wall for a long time, when I get sone time left over I will replace the motor with an other motor. The gearbox were just to noisy... I have an idea the AXI 2808/20 will do the job...

Those AXIs look pretty good, how did that guy have his mounted, behind the firewall? Won't those large prop break on landing? Or are the aeronaught ones you mention flexible?

Hey here it is March 2010, and I just pulled out another kit from my archives, a Great Planes Electrostrek arf. I was wondering, I have several 3S 2200 Li-po's and what motor/prop/speed controller would work well from the present equipment available. I bet this plane would scream on today's brushless equipment, but I do not want to experiment by buying several different set-ups, just would like to be sent in the right direction. Any help I would appreciate, Thanks.
