Interesting. Would be simpler than dealing with two packs, fewer connectors = less weight.

My question would be regarding cooling. Would it be better to have two 5S packs separated by an inch or so for better cooling?

Down sides would be charging 10S could be a problem for some people and a bad cell would take out the entire 10 cells rather than just 5.

Still, it's a nice option to have.

Keith

The Extreme's cool so much better than the Prolites that I dont think its a problem.

FYI, I weighed my 10s 5000 and it was 1204 grams, which is about 20 grams lighter than two seperate 5s 5000 packs. About 80 grams heavier than 5300's.

Chad,

The info on the cooling is good to know. Playing the devils advocate, how do you know they'll be cool enough during the summer down here in the south. What's the hottest outside temps you've run them in?

BTW, I'm not discounting that they are cooler, I'm sure being rated for higher discharge they clearly will be. The real question is when it's in the 90's and 100's F would it be more beneficial to have the packs separated than all together?

To be honest their's something appealing about a single pack, seems much easier, I like the weight savings and the reduced resistance of extra connectors/wiring is important. I'm just being cautious.

Hottest I had a chance in was about 20C (this was on x2 5s 5000 Extreme pack, not this new one). Obviously not 90F, so I dont know how hot they will get. However compared to my Prolites in the same conditions they are much much cooler. Temperature is very related to discharge and I took the 5000's to nearly nothing on a couple of flights and they still remained below 40C. The Prolites fairly quickly get up to 60C when doing that.

I will have to see if I can get a probe down between the cells on the 10s setup someplace to get a feeling of what the core temp is.

Is there any capability to charge these as 2 5S packs (other than the balancing taps) or is it 10S only for charging?

thx
Don

Don, as you say, the only way to charge this as a 5s pack would be through the balance connector. I've never tried that, but I wouldn't be in a big rush to put 10A through those tiny wires. I think this product is for people who have or are willing to buy a 10s charger and are enticed by not dealing with mounting twice as many batteries and wiring two packs together externally. For everyone else, there's the existing 5s5000 pack.

I have tested the TP 5000 today with 5 degrees outside!
Power is fantastic.

Adam
I am just now looking at these 10s 5000 packs.
Will the TP1010 charge them and at what rate. IN otherwords what will be the average recharge time.

i hope to be making the move to E power soon and am tring to decide which packs to go with. I'll be putting a Plet EVO on the UltraRC Evolution. I think
Thanks
Eddie

Eddie, the TP 1010C does 10s @ 5A, so expect charge times of 50-62 minutes, depending on depth of discharge.
