Default 46-50 size electric set-up, post here

I'm looking to electrifry my next Era and am wondering what you guys are USING in this size plane. What motor/controller/batteries would work for a full on F3A set-up? Right now the one I have has an OS-55 (RTFW- 4.75lbs) and it will fly all sequences (including 09's), even in heavy winds. Looking for something similar with an electric set-up. Thanks for your help.

Jas,

I had a Groovy 50 on 6S 4200's with an Eflite 60. It had tons of vertical performance. If memory serves me, it was over 1000 Watts. The wing loading was lacking though due to its weight.

Dear Jason,

We convert a Kyosho Oxalys 50 from glow (YS 63) to electric, with a Hacker A50-12S; APC 15x10E (16x9E don´t fit with original landing gear); Jeti Master Spin 70 Opto; 2 x Thunder Power 42003S2PL, 4200 mAh; FMA voltage regulator 2A, 5V plus TP 7302SPL 730 mAh. Servos are Hitec HS 125 MG for ailerons; Futaba 9402 for rudder and elevator. RTFW: 2,350 g (5.2 lb).

We try an AXI 4120/18 in another plane but the performance is not comparable with Hacker. We fly at sea level with little wind.

I believe you can try a Hacker A50-16S with APS 16x10E in heavy wind.

In my country some items are difficult to obtain, so we can´t maximize performance and weight.

regards, Lineu

I have a Venus 40 and a Groovy 50 with Plettenberg Orbit 25-16, 5S LiPo 4000 mAh and 14x9 Aeronaut prop. My batteries are 2 years old. With new battery you shall have 13x9 or 14x7 to get same power. I does have 930 W and the motor is cold after a flight. It is possible to increase the power if you like.

Plettenberg Orbit 25-16 is an expensive motor but is a inexpensive compare to other Plettenberg motors. Orbit 25-16 have a good power to weight ratio.

Well Jason i have a Funtana x50 that i converted to electric. Call it sacralige but i use a GP Rimfire 50-55 650kV. Oh well horizon aint happy!!
I am running a Flight Power 3700 20C 5-cell
Speed controller is a bit of overkill but Castle Creations 85HV is bullet proof.
THe rimfire will go to i thjink 7 cells, but i aint got anything but 5 cell packs.
I run a 14x7 APc and its good, but i think i can go to 15x7..havent tried yet.
6-cells should be nearly insane on a 13x8 or so..
My setup is like 1250 watts or so...

Tony
PS thanks for coming to our BPA in Huntsvile..

Grovvy 50 f3a with Hyperion 4020-14 and 4020-12 5s 3700 and 4000 on anything from 13 x 8, 13 x 10, 14 x 7 and 15 x 8.
All very good approx 1100 to 1200W.

Cheers

In my MAGPIE 50, with an ASTROFLIGHT's 40BL-3 TURNS + 3,33:1 gearbox (fty matched) +14X12 apce ,+5 s= UNLIMIITED vertical , outstanding speed , simply say= MUCH better in power-wise and reliability than ANY of ic engines i have had.
Also, a Pletti's ORBIT 30-12 on a Super LARK . 15x10 apce. 5s2p Conions = AWESOME. also same conclusion, NOTHING NEAR WITH MY OWNED IC engines.
One more thing, just ask out of my curiosity. Does anyone notice that those ASTROFLIGHT 's motor/ gearboxes are so reasonably pricing at a level very close (or some under) to those 'NEWLY produced '' BETTER 'exported grade' overflooded motors.....check out their 60 and the biggie 4kw 120BL, got 2 at its first released. and now the sale price is .....

Angel 50 with an Actro 24-4 on 5S5000 FP LiPo.
First test showed 1440W... 16x10APC-E. Propped down to "only" 1050W on 80% charged LiPo, with 14x10APC-E. I assume a 15x8 will suit perfect, just waits for this propeller-size.
(This Actro could propably deal with close to 2kW, but I won`t try)

i am using Hacker B50-13S /6.7:1, TP 5S 5000mah, Schulze 18-32 ESC and APC 16x8 - 10 (depend on your preference) for my Kyosho Oxlays. It flys great.
