Default ESC Timing ?

I wanted to know how does the timing afect the performance of the motor? I am running a Hacker C50 13 XL competition with the Master 90-O-Acro competition ESC. The timing I use is 0°. What happened if I change the timing? What is the best timing for this motor? I am useing an APC 20x15, is there any relation between the timing and the propeller.

Thank you.
Ricardo.

Default RE: ESC Timing ?

Changing the timing can result in more power/increased amperage, or the reverse depending on the current settings and motor. Also using an incorrect timing setting will cause the ESC to run hotter, and possibly fail.

I beleive for the low pole count inrunners like Hacker 0 degrees is the correct setting, you are best to leave it alone unless your motor/esc is not working properly at the current setting.

I am told most esc's adjust timing slightly during operation to compensate for load etc., so there is no need for you to change anything for different propellors.

0-degrees
8kHz
2V cut-off, soft cut-off
Hard acceleration
APC-E 20.5x14
TP-5000 10S

Don't remember the #'s, or if I even took any. only flew the 13 a handful of times thinking it was a 14. Changed it for the 14 once I figured it out.

Hi Jason

2V for cut-off isn't too low ?

I only fly a routine and maybe 2 maneuvers then land. Never over 8 minutes. If something is wrong, I know because of the loss of power and land anyway. Hasn't been a problem yet...

I spoke to Rainer Hacker at the Euro Champs about the timing. He told me 2 degress, from 0 to 4 it is ok, in any case the motor is quite insensitive to the timing.

I have even seen one guy leave 24 degrees (from previous outrunner) and use it with the Hacker C50 14XL. It was running seemingly quite ok, he did not do any measurements. Then realized. Do not try this at home, though.

I use 2 degress, 3,1V cutoff, on the Jeti Spin 99. Hacker C50 14 XL, with 20x13 3-blade, Hyperion VX 5000s.
Absolutely no issues, plenty of power. Flying most of the time to the soft cutoff.
