Kv =200 sounds a little low. What rpm are you guys getting?

Jim, check the first couple of pages in this thread. There are several sets of data with props, current, and RPM. But on average, 58-6000 RPM depending on prop, battery, and conditions.

Jim:

I'm testing one of the pre-production motor with MPI carbon fiber prop since last week.

APC 20.5x14 Turnigy 10S 5000mAh 20C LiPo, full charged:
5850 rpm max. at 65Amp

MPI carbon fiber prop 20.5x14, Turnigy 10S 5000mAh 20C LiPo, full charged:
6060 rpm max. at 65Amp, 5800 rpm at 62Amp

These values are pretty close to Kevin, Tom, Chris and Don's data.

That might turn out to be a very good match. That is a good range for those props, my only concern would be can you still get in that neighborhood at the end of the flight.

I do like the idea that you shouldn't need to limit the throttle on the top end like we do on the Plettenberg and you will probably get better mileage due to the lower peak current.

Thanks for the research.

Here is the EagleTree data I collected on 3/14/10. This was running on a MPI 21x14 CF prop, TP4350 LiPo. One Master sequence usages was 3101 mAh. I had 4 flights on that day, average usage was 3228 mAh per Master sequence. About 6% lower than running on APC 21x14. The APC 21x14 is 109g, MPI CF 21x14 is 61g, that makes the difference.

BTW, I do not limit my throttle upper end (use ATV) after I updated my CC HV85 firmware from 2.18 to 3.20. In my opinion, it runs more smooth and response more linear. I have more than enough power through out whole Master sequence.

I received the notice as well. Earlier this week, I received a call regarding a couple of days of delay. Excellent service.

Mike:

The first production batch CF prop will be available in Toledo show as I was told. 21x14, 20.5x14 and 20x15 will be on top of the list. I don't have detail info about the retail price and schedule yet, but I heard that MPI will have an ad in the next issue K-Factor. Thanks!

Received the motor yesterday. It looks very nice.

Since I plan to use it on a narrow body pattern ship (E-converted Sequel), I wonder if it makes sense to use a smaller APC E prop (such as 19 X 14) to cut down on capacity (and hence the weight) of the batteries.

Thanks

I will recommand 20x15 as the starting setup. Since the Kv is low, my test data show that at 10S setup, APC 20x15, 20x13 and 19x12W are all around 6,100-6,200 rpm. So I don't expect the 19x14 can gain more rpm. Current are around 55-60A at full throttle. Hope this will help.

I am at Toledo and had a long discussion yesterday with Jarvis at Himax (MPI). F3A Unlimited will be stocking this motor shortly and our web site will be updated with pricing as well this week.

There are four cooling washers coming with the motor. Is it required to install them as shown in the pic? thx

I think the cooling washers go on the back side of the fiewall. They disipate the heat so the bolts don't melt their way thru the material.
I mounted my motor directly to the holes on the back of the motor instead of using the cross mount. Mike

I ran my Himax 6330 for the first time Tuesday afternoon in my Intefral. I replaced a Pletty 30-10 EVO that is in Germany now repairing a bent shaft. (short landing due to battery cut off, broken CF prop, bent shaft) The Himax motor bolted in the same mounting holes and was an easy 5 minute install. I ran it with a CC 85HV esc and True RC 5000.
It was not a happy camper with the same ESC settings as the Pletty. Lots of bad noises as I advanced the throttle stick! I had to dial back the high throttle atv to 30-35% to get it to run at full throttle stick and the power was noticably down at that setting. Last night I got out the manual and changed the ESC to the recommended settings. Should have read the manual first. I'll try again tomorrow.

What was the firmware you had on the ESC? I would suggest using firmware 3.20 since the earlier version firmware is known to cause noise issue.

Hope this helps.

I flew my new Himax 6360 yesterday and today. It replaced a Dualsky with LOTS of flights on it. No other changes, same ESC, batteries, settings. The new Himax was noticeably quieter and seems to have more midrange torque. Only 6 flights on it so far but right now I am very happy with it. Used roughly the same mah per flight as I used with the Dualsky but I would expect that to drop slightly as I learn how to throttle this motor. I seemed to be over throttling in some maneuvers because of what I perceive as a different torque curve. So far, so good. Now let's see if we can get a 1000 flights out of it. ;-)

The X-mounting plate is an option. I bolted mine directly to the motor base.... no X-plate. This may save you ~20 grams.

CC 85HV was a nightmare at early testing stage last year until we figured out it was the firmware issue, not motor.
I tried firmware version 2.16 and 2.18, the motor squeal all the time. This also happened to Plett motor as well. You may find lots of discussion in this forum.
Castle Creations finally came out the new Firmware 3.20 that solved the squealing problem. The Himax's ESC settings are based on Dave Lockhart's recommandation. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_94..._1/key_/tm.htm post #17-20. Thanks!
