Hacker A50-16L question

Got one sitting here and have a question or two...first time user so bear with me.
First, while turning the thing by hand I feel a tick, tick, tick.... almost like there are bearing with square sides being used. Is this the magnets causing resistance or something else (bad bearing??? I sure hope not!)
Second, has anyone mounted this thing with a rear mount and used the aluminum prop shaft adapter bolted to the rear of the motor (in lieu of the standard nose ring mounted method)?

Perhaps due to this kind of play?

I'm assuming the 'tick' quiet, and more like 12 sides? There are magnets in the motor, thus the prop will not just spin 'freely', although the resistance when unpowered is small. It should take a small amount of effort to spin the motor by hand through each 'tick'. This is normal.

Nice motor you got there, I'm a little jealous [&o]

Mark,

I have a Hacker A50-16S in a SebArt AngelS and I use the rear mount and  prop shaft mounted to the rear of the motor, like you describe and it works just fine.  The Hackers are great motors.  I'm very happy with mine.  I hope you're putting your motor in a Wind 110.  I've seen a couple of these fly and they're excellent airplanes.

That's the magnets, Mark. You'll find that feeling in all of the electric motors people use in R/C. We call that feeling cogging. Some motors cog harder than others. Even inrunners display this though you may not feel it through the gear box.

Not this motor specifically, but I've mounted plenty of outrunners this way. In fact, I've mounted more like that then I have using the nosering method. It works fine.

Cogging, that's the word I was searching the grey matter for...

Joe, I was actually on the sidelines awaiting your report on the Scorpion motor.... sorry to hear about your woes and thanks for sharing them with us.
