I can't comment on the 40gram falcon but the V1 definetly performes better than the APC.

I also recommend getting an incidence meter you will need one when setting up pattern planes. I also recommmend the Horizon meter, the robart can be tricky to use and requires more experience.

Dana,

Are you using the newer 40-gram Falcon, which I read somewhere actually weighs an astonishing 37 grams??

Must be made of fairy wings.

Anybody else used it?

Happy new year Bob! Yup it's the new one. Very pretty prop!

Bob,

I made the switch to the new prop in the middle of a contest and never took it off. I know Dave Lockhart did the same thing at the NATS, changing right before and never taking it off. The prop absolutely rocks. You have to be careful with it as I"m sure you could easily chip it striking even a grass field if it hit hard, but the performance in the air is excellent.

I have one a question, has anyone had any issues with the landing gear? Seems they use 1/16 or metric equivilent sort of aircraft ply and another 1/16 light ply to space the blind nuts. Mine pulled the blind nuts right through the wood, and no it wasn't a bad landing. Got it out and replaced with 3/16 aircraft ply with bamboo pegs in front, working OK now.

I haven't heard of any issues like you have described.

I got the Torque Silver Bullet motor for my Vanquish. It came without the matching bullet connectors for the ESC. Anyone know what bullet connectors match what is already on the motor?

I went with the 4mm castles. Mine didn't come with any either.

does anyone have a picture of the tail wheel set up do you bend it and slot it through the rudder

pvogel 01-09-2012 10:20 AM

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread

Hi Jetmech,

No, you use the ball link that came in the bag with the rudder assembly, there's a hole for it under the covering on the rudder, glue it in there and then the tailwheel control arm slides right into the ball link when the rudder slides on. Pretty slick. I'll take a pic of it when I get home.

Any chance someone wouldn't mind taking some measurements?? :)

Looking for:
Height of Rudder (ground to top of fin)
Width of stabilizer (maximum width between right and left side)
Height of Tallest part of plane (with wheels/gear on, canopy off, not the prop)

I'm trying to figure out if/how this would fit in a 1/2 ton Pickup (Ranger) with 6ft box.

Maybe it's time to 'upgrade'... should be able to swap everything from my Wind... uh, unless my gear is too heavy?!. Shouldn't be, need to check that one :)

Appx. 16.5", 31", 19" respectively.

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread

By definition as a 2M plane it must fit within a 78.7" box, that's just 6.7" longer than your 6ft. Since the wings will be off, we're really just talking about a 78.7" long object where one end has a 31" wide stabilizer (though that is technically removable, it would be a pain to remove and maintain the 0 degrees incidence you need without fiddling with an incidence meter at the field). Treating the 78.7" length as the hypotenuse of a right triangle with the bed length of 72" (6 ft) says that the plane (without stab) would fit at an angle such that the nose is 32 inches displaced horizontally from the corner where you have the tail, at an angle of 24 degrees from the side of the truck bed.

Considering the 31" width of the tailplane it would require 22" offset from the corner of the bed in order to fit snugly as the hypotenuse of a 45/45/90 triangle (putting the plane at 45 degrees instead of 24 degrees) which moves the rear of the h. stab 15" from the corner itself, effectively making the plane seem like it's 15" longer. So, does a 93.7" hypotenuse fit? Again assuming a 6 foot long bed, the nose would now be 60" offset, so is your truck bed at least 5 feet wide? If it is, then the plane sits in the bed at an angle of 40 degrees, which is pretty close to the 45 degrees we assumed for the tail, so as long as you have a little wiggle room since the tailplane is now not at the ideal 45 degree angle, it's at a 50 degree angle to the length of the truck bed, which means that the offset of the rear of the h. stab to the nearest corner of the bed is 15.3" instead of 15" as we looked at earlier. Worst case, you take off your spinner nose.

So yeah, what JetMech said: "It should fit" :-)

Thanks Danamania and everyone. Yeah Pvogel, that's what I was going for - why I was curious about the stab. Will measure my truck bed in more detail when I get some time and sun.

I did forget to ask for the width at the gear...

pvogel 01-09-2012 03:54 PM

RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread

Width at the gear shouldn't matter, the gear are far enough back from the nose of a spinner that if the h.stab fits on the other corner, the gear will *definitely* fit at the front.

Anyone know which is the proper adapter for a tru turn FAI spinner and the torque F3A motor?

I don't know, but I can virtually guarantee that Amanda at Tru-Turn knows!
