First Flights on My Scandalous show Outstanding Performance with a Hacker C50xl14 and 5300mah TP. First Trim Flights this weekend in 15-25 mph wind! Not Good For a Clear evaluation... of course it's Dead Calm today and I'm at Work D@** #%& !!! I will Say that this plane handles the wind better than I expected with all the wing area..Snaps are Clean and on a line..Rolls are very Axial and present Very Well..later

Are we going to get to see these things fly at Jetero this weekend?

RE: Scandalous

Yes, Ive got about 7 Flights on mine still waiting for the wind to die down for some better trim flights (CG\ Mix Etc..) But it's pretty happy just where it is...
I Hard mounted the motor ( I couldn't wait for the soft mount which showed up the day after I Hard Mounted) My Hard mount consists of 1\4 in Balsa Sandwiched between 1\8 light ply, the Tail support is light ply sandwiched with carbon Total weight 1.25 oz..

If someone can tell how to find and insert the pics that I have uploaded I will post the motor install pics....

Well it needs to lose some weight looks like I will Have to go with the new 4700mah TP that are suppose to be coming...to Make weight or maybe the 4200s after a little more data gathering...I need to kill at least 3 oz on the Batteries...

Awesome guys, I can't wait to see these fly this weekend!

BW, how much weight do you need to loose?

Are those dowel standoffs holding your rear motor support? If so how much do they weigh?

What RX battery are you running? I'm running a TP900 mah LiPo that weighs very little (can't recall right now exactly how much, I think like 32 grams). Also, are you using a switch on your RX battery? If so you can remove it and just plug in servo extensions each time. I've heard that the aileron servo extensions on the electrics don't need to be 22 ga as there's not so much vibration, 24 ga would save you a few grams. If you're using a throttle servo extension it definitely doesn't need to be 22 ga.

Another big place to save weight is in the wiring of the controller. Are you using 3 deans connectors or just two?

I really don't think the TP 4200's will be enough if you're trying to keep the discharge rate below 80% of the battery capacity, especially in the wind.

ok, lets get to the point, how does it hover, torque roll, harrier, waterfall, wall. serously i cant believe someone would build a plane that pretty that wans't meant to 3d..

ah hell, i thought this was the ima forum.. shucks.

hehe j/k. How is the speed, do you find you are burning lots of amps in the straight and level to maintain a steady flying speed or is it cleaner tan what we expeted. i guess todd would know more compared to the amount of energy used compared to flying his genesis..

i am excited to see them fly in nederland (you be there right?)

Chuck

BW. I am curious on some maeasurements, want to compare them to the plans i recieved for another pattern pipe that i am curently building.
Distance between wings. diance from back of spinner to leading edge of lower wing. Distance from thrustline to top wing. Distance from turtledeck to bottom of top wing.

Also, how are the cabanes attached to the fuse... are they tied into formers or the fuse sides? Picture here would great.

thanks for your help.. see you in nederland???

What pattern bipe are you building? I've had a soft spot for bipes for a long time. My attempt on turning a Dr. Jekyl into a bipe was not too successful due to serious coupling with rudder. Finally gave up and sold it.

Jeff, I would love to share more with you but at this time i am not comfortable sharing as it is not my dsign. i am going to ask permission to share and I wll eventually start a thread on it but you ahve to understand, i just get the pleasure of bringing the design to the table.

I think there is a sneak picture of it on RCU somehwere but can't seem to find it.

if i get permission or if the designer reads this post, he can post a 3d cad or 3 view if he pleases.

I read quite a bit about your jekyl and was sorry to hear that it did not perform to your expectations but aplaud you fo your efforts. i was curious which factors lead to the intense roll coupling.

Hope to share more with you soon.

Chuck,

Here is your permission to share....wish I had time to build it myself....maybe this Winter....

I hope you can build light......like Japanese light.... The cores for the prototype are cut, but it will likely be after the Nats before I can sheet everything.

Good luck...

BTW, my big hangup with diving into this can of worms....besides building light, hoping for very little coupling, etc., etc.....is the logistics of having a pipe go through or over a lower wing tube.....yuk. Maybe a short hatori on a DZ or electric is the way to go....

p.s. Sorry to hijack the thread.....seeing those beauties fly at Jetero was an honest treat.

Japanese planes are light?

Jeff-RCU 06-07-2006 06:35 AM

RE: Scandalous

I assume the roll couplling was due to the top wing being joined to the body. I could mix it out pretty well at one speed, but faster or slower and it showed up again. And not just minor, it would be almost uncontrolable if you used rudder at high speed (roll and dive). Also caused problems at low speeds on things like stall turns and landings. Oh well, I guess that is why I don't make a living designing airplanes!

I have a Runaround kit that I was thinking of mating to a set of Ultimate Wings, but now I'll hold out till yours is finished.

thanks Mark.. i will begin a seperate thread in the other forum soon and i plan on using dz power, mainly for weight. I prefer the os 160 at this time cause that is what i know, but things could change.

Jeff... keep in touch, i would love to hear some of your ideas or comments.

Todd/BW any chance on some of those measurements??

Chuck

or do i need to bring my micrometer to Jetero.
