Electrics- P-51 Miss America Conversion
AirBorne Models has the P-51 Miss America EP on sale for only $49 right now. This is the older version that had the brushed Speed 400 motor with the gearbox. See the page at Special Overstock Sales It does not have the KM0283010 outrunner motor that is required for RCPRO Electric Warbird Racing [link=http://www.ElectricWarbirdRacing.com]ElectricWarbirdRacing.com[/link], but it can easily be converted. Or if you just want a fun plane to fly, you can stuff other motors under the cowl. These planes are fun to fly, but they are not for novice pilots. And you need a good modern radio for the most fun. Something with dual rates and expo.
The newer P-51's have the KM0283010. See the P-51 Mustang - EP ( Brushless) page.
I have a yellow P-51 that I converted to use the KM0283010 and I'm going to convert a P-51 that I had on hand. I will create a PDF with the drawings for those of you who may want to save a few bucks and do the conversion yourself.
This is what the kit looks like.

The stabilizer is pretty thin. And the joiner between the elevators is wood. I had it break on my yellow P-51. So I will add a wire joiner before I assemble this one.

This is my Clipped Wing Cub. See the Clipped Wing Cub EP page. The reason for showing this plane is that I am going to convert it to the KM0283010 direct drive motor. It currently has the same gearbox that comes with the $49 Miss America. I replaced the Speed 400 with a brushless outrunner that The World Model engineered as a S400 replacement. And you could do the same on the Miss America, but it would not be legal for the new racing class. I'm going to convert the Cub because I'm tired of the gears whinning and I'm not real fond of the folding prop. The plane is very aerobatic and I think a better prop on a direct drive motor will make it even more fun. I'm showing it here because it gives some context to the Mustang conversion.

Here is the stock gearbox motor mount.
And pictures of my mount that I made for my yellow P-51.
Simple pieces of 1/16" plywood with a 1/8" motor mount with square stock in the corners.
I've cartwheeled this plane and the mount has held up fine.

One of the nice things about The World Models "Park Flyers" is that they have real control horns and real clevises. I don't use bands around teh clevises because they are plenty tight and bands seem to cause some binding.
