I just completed fixing my one way bearing problem (changed to steel shaft) took the heli out back to try her out (without taining gear for the first time) and she was flying great...I was very happy to be in controled steady hover...but I got greedy and started messing around. I came in with a little hard landing and bounced the main blades into the ground, snapping the rotor head right off and bending and breaking the rest of the rotor head about the swashplate.ooopps [:-]. Oh well gonna replace with upgraded alum parts

Dude! I admire how calm and matter-of-fact you are about this wipeout! I got a Shogun for Christmas myself (my gift to me!), but with my limited hobby-time it will be weeks of tinkering/adapting before I get airborne. Thanks for your sobering pics--I'll remember this should I start to "get greedy"!

Wow, me too, I got one from my parents as a present. Ive got no current heli pilots at my local club, but I know the basic controls and principals of heli flight, so with a pair of training gear I figure I can get away with learning to hover. I'll keep you in mind! ;-)

Working on a review for RCU on this heli, and I gotta say I've replaced a handful of parts on it and still haven't gotten the video done yet. She flew in hover, but a tough landing put the gear in shambles.

I've replaced the landing gear, the tail gears (Global sent me the new bevel gears. They rock!), the main shaft (on order with HeliHobby... use training gear when setting the trim!), blades.

Oh by the way, when I changed the main shaft I also changed the collective "rig" so it would go negative pitch (which I'm more used to), but I think I must have been used to the way it was before and I may have pushed it into the ground a little. I should have played it cool a little longer before I got greedy, and it might still be in one piece. Oh well, I'll post pics of the new head and all repairs, when the parts come. Cant wait to fly with sym blades. New tail beval gears really do rock, as far as I'm concerned they break when they should...unlike the origanal crown gears that would strip if you hit your idle up switch.

Hmmm, I was thinking about upgrading from my gws mini dragonfly to a zoom ( mainly as the LHS flys one) but now not sure as most of my "landings" are a bit .... harsh. are they really that fragile?

I wouldn't consider them too fragile. last fall I had a glitch, I guess, the motor just cut out at about 30 feet. The thing drops like a rock, autos aren't really an option, it hit pretty hard. Total damage was:

Cracked frame (repaired with CA)
Bent one skid
Cracked one landing strut (repaired with CA)

No bent TB, no broken blades.

I was impressed.

They are not too bad, this was by far the worst crash I've had...I was idled up 100% upside down on the ground for a second before I hit the switch off, if I were flying in throttle/pitch mode it would not have been nearly as bad. By the way, the heli is all repaired with new aluminum rotor head and head stop button (like the big boys)+ all linkage, except I also bent the steel main shaft a little so I have to order that now too. Remember everyone...dont be stingy with the crash pics

Thanks for the clarification. I think I'll go ahead and get the shogun/zoom. I have progressed to flying outside, but find the dragonfly a bit hard to control in the wind. Suppose if I have to repair the shogun a few times my LHS will be really nice to me!!! Nothing ventured -nothing gained

The week wait from Heli Hobby or rchover.com stinks.... Fortunately with RCHover about 3 states away it's only a 2 day wait
