Default Brushless speed control with brushed motor?

I recently ordered a new heli kit with a brushed motor. I then ordered (what I thought at the time) a 40 amp brushed speed controller, turns out it's actaully a brushless one and I misread the damn title. The package is already on it's way. So what i'm wondering is, if the brushless speed controller will work with the brushed motor? What exactly are the differences?
Will they work as is? I know brushless motors need brushless speed controllers, but i've never quite understood why, so maybe someone here can explain this to me a little better.
Thanks!

No, unfortunately the brushless controller will not work, the brushless controler cycles the electromagnets around in circles, the brushed controler controls pulse frequency.

Thanks. I just stumbled upon another article aswell, about brushless motors using three wires with brushed using only 2.

Sigh...

Not the answer I wanted to hear, but good to know, nonetheless..

You'll be glad you purchased a brushless controller and like many you probably won't turn back. What you need now is a brushless motor.
