I want to move from a FP Corona 120 to CP electric. Which is the better product: Global EvoFlight Shogun 400 EP or HeliMax MX400 EP or the T-rex??

My MX 400 just came in today. Really nice. Everything is solid and well put together.

My Shogun was a disaster from the beginning. Tail rotor problems and bent shafts resulting from knicking the grass were a constant problem.

I think I could put T Rex stickers on it and fool almost anyone.

OK Shogun is off my list.

X-400 is superior to the t-rex depending on what you want. For hard 3D the t-rex is better, but for a newbie, the X-400 has tamer cyclic and so is more suitable for someone whos just into casual flight or learning to fly. Not to say the x-400 can't do 3D, as it's just as 3D capable as the t-rex is, but the t-rex will snap around quicker than the x-400 will in it's stock form. Both are great machines, at any rate. And since the x-400 was developed by one of the same guys who made the t-rex, many of the parts are even interchangeable.

I just spun the blades on my X 400 for the first time. After owning a Shogun it was sure nice to have a heli that did not try to shake itself to pieces and the blade tracking was dead on with no adjustment.

Tomorrow the big test.

Most of the complaints about the Shogun are concerning the shaft tail drive... the new version of the Shogun (V2) has belt drive, now, like the T-Rex and MX-400...

True, but I still had a lot of issues with the tail rotor on the V2 also. First the tail gear was not glued to the shaft so I had to take it completely apart and glue it. Then no matter what I did it never seemed to have enough right yaw adjustment.

After I broke it I put a T-Rex tail boom and tail assembly on it and it works much better but it is still not nearly as good as my new X-400.

lol the x400 is superior to a trex non Xl. However it cant touch the XL, but it is like half the price. I still desire to get my shogun to actually fly, but it's so costly that itll be on my shelf for a while. Never recovered after a light-medium crash into my sofa. I probably need to drop over $100 into it to get it air worthy. And while a major crash in my x400 will only cost $50 to fix, im stickin with it for now.

That's why I said a t-rex in stock form . I was comparing it to the original. T-rex has had alot of improvements over it's course of several models, whereas the X-400, well, that's their only model from ARK. Seems like they aren't very interested in competeing directly with Align. Or maybe they've got something fantastic up their sleeves for the near future.. Who knows

You know they all have us caught up in a big scam. For example, I finished my X 400 today and went out to trim it (light on the gear). Before I ever got it to even get light one of the pitch control arms on the tail rotor snapped. No reason, it just broke.

Now I have to order one...but there are two problems; 1. Out of stock, and; 2. It's a $5.00 part so when I do buy it I may as well buy more stuff (just in case) to save on the shipping.

Not even one hover or one blade strike...nothing...and its already broke.. That sucks.

sounds like pilot error - you hit the T/r on the floor. those pitch arms break VERY VERY easily but also for a good reason and they are kinda expensive $5.50 a pair. i've CAed mine back together almost 5x each side no problem = free fix.

alternative:
upon putting on the trex XL pitch control system which is rock hard compared...when you hit that thing instead of breaking a stupid pitch link - you tweak the t/r shaft, break the whole slider assembly, and maybe even the aluminum hub if not stripping the tail belt or pullies. that's probably $20 worth of damage. im back to the stock ARK system for now until i get one of the new trex SE system.

now that is like a "crush zone" if you think about it. you must be careful when assembling it also. using a good set of ball link pliars to snap it in or out as the plastic is weak there. who knows...what happned in your case. these things arent toys, theyre precision models.

even if you just Nicked the T/R something will happen. the X400's tail system is like a 5:1 ratio. it's spinning VERY fast and has a lot of inertia in it. if you did that in the shogun youll know what happens - input gear or hex end will round almost indefinitely. belt drives are NOT invinsible.

Not that I have never pranged a heli, I have notches in my transmitter to account for my kills (I'm almost an ace), but this time it just flew apart.

I put a T-Rex pitch control arm and it worked fine. It just irratates me that the parts are so flimsy.

The T-rex is one hot helicopter. Super agile, super stable, and flys like a dream. Go for the Trex CDE version. Ive gotten quite a few flights on one, and it flys really well. I have a MX400, but I havent flown it yet. Based on what Ive seen it should be a little more docile than the Trex, but still have full 3D capabilities.

Shogun...phooey. Not in the least impressed. Even the V2 still has that stamped rolled aluminum tailboom. The shogun was nice before the Trex, but there's no way it can keep up...EF is trying desperatly play catch-up. Instead of re-designing the shogun....they should have spent that time designing a new helicopter.
