Ok guys I've been seriously contemplating the purchase of the Vulcan SE and have been vigorously searching for info. The only info that I have been able to find on the web regarding this beastie is this thread. Is this heli an orphan bordering on a Frankensteinesk build or is there a site that actually has upgrade parts for it? Is Xheli and their related sites the only places to buy the Vulcan SE. Are there any reviews that you know of online? Thanks for any info.

I'd say it's a generic, commodity heli. A clone of many of the 450 size helis. Pretty straight forward build, but there are no instructions, so you need some experience or help. It comes 90% prebuilt but will need going over. Read through the thread. It's a clone of the Trex450, but the tail drive is more like the Dragonus. Don't know why you'd want upgrade parts - the heli is already blinged out with all aluminum anodized parts, but most parts and upgrades that will fit a Trex450V2 should fit this one. Not the frame parts, mind you, but the rotor head and tail rotor parts as well as landing gear, skids, fins.....

Xheli and Raidentech are the only sites that sell the Vulcan450SE version of this heli that I'm aware of. They don't sell the parts unique to this heli - meaning the frame parts. If I were to wreck it, I could see having to buy a new frame of another make and using my remaining parts to reincarnate it as another heli. That's my biggest squawk with this heli. The Pigeon 450 and GL 450 are not quite the same. Close, but not exact.

Thanks, my heli project is on hold for a couple months because I am out of the country. I wish I could work on it now, but here it is waiting paitently in the box for me. My wife is convinced they are just "toys" I told her to postpone any judgement until it's finished. Do you have any more pictures Dale_G?
Anything in particular you would like to see?

Thank you for the great information already Dale_G, I like the setup on your Vulcan 450SE and I was wondering if you had a closer picture of your motor/ESC. I was thinking about mounting the motor on top and I didn't know how much clearance you have with the motor on the bottom. How is the balance with that big Lipo you have strapped to the front? It would be cool if you had some pictures of your heli in flight.

OK guys....I posted the photos in my gallery....too many pixels to upload here and I didn't feel like converting.....

I just bought and received the Exceed RC Eagle 50. I plan on using this bird as my trainer. I believe it will help me get the feel for flying the Vulcan when I get it finished. The Eagle 50 only cost me $107 which included shipping and it comes with EVERYTHING....transmitter, all electronics, and so forth....yeh it is not the best but at least I will feel more comfortable learning on this for a while instead of the Vulcan.

The multi-colored fiberglass canopy I purchased is pictured as well.

Anyway.....so far I have checked all the screws and such on the Vulcan. Over the next week or two I plan on placing the Aligh 430XL motor, the Phoenix 35 ESC, and the receiver and servos which came with the Spectrum DX6. I want to watch more videos before I start though....

Later.

Thanks for the update TEKoosed, did your Vulcan come in that silver color or did you paint it? I looked at your pics and I see you have a lot of work/fun ahead, good luck. If you crash that trainer make sure to post a pic of the destruction. Have you decided on a Gyro yet? I look forward to seeing your progress because I am undergoing the same project in a couple months. Good luck!

Ok, I must add to the list of TRex clones that Dale_G mentioned. The Vulcan 450SE is very similiar to the CopterX 450AE RTF on ehirobo.com the only parts that seem the same is the tail rotor assembly, complete rotor head, and battery tray. Here is a couple of photos to prove it. The CopterX 450AE RTF is $399.00 even a nice aluminum case, I am not endorsing the product because I already have the Vulcan but you have to admit it is not a bad deal. I would buy the combo but... I want a 2.4GHz Tx/Rx not 72MHz and the numerouse other generic parts that I would probably have to replace soon anyway. Plus I like the frame design and cannopy better on the Vulcan. Well I will let you decide...

Hi,
I'm new to this forum, Just got my Vulcan 450se from X-heli.com (live just 15 minutes away from x-heli warehouse) it took only less than 20 hours for me to get the whole box, also got some align 430xl brushless motor, futaba 401gyro combined w/ S9260 tail servo and a set of spectrum 6X , I'm still shopping for a Li-po battery

this forum is really a great help since the Vulcan kit dont come with a set-up guide
maybe we can get some of the expert from x-heli and other store tech pro to drop in (forum) every now and then

Hello all..I have been into Blade CP for a little while and was getting ...comfortable ... with it enough to try a Pigeon 450, it came with a DX6 .. G240 gyro.. 30 amp brushless.. etc.. I cannot figure out the radio setup for anything.. I have tried to read some of the setups with the Trex.. but for some reason.. I think its because the servo are mounted differenty... I cant even get it off the ground!!?? The blades pitch neg. as I give it throttle. I figure maybe one of you that has the Pigeon or Vulcan(which seems to have the servos mounted the same) might not mind helping me out with this so I can get it off the ground any help would be great

rotate all 3 of your servo arms 180 degrees... up is now down..... aka neg pitch is now positive pitch. Look at the pictures of Dale_G setup on page one and look at the servo arms for an example... good luck

I haven't been watching the heli sites for a few weeks. Looking at xheli and raidentech today, I don't see the Vulcan 450 listed any more. Anyone know anything about this?

I'm not too worried about having an orphaned heli. Anyone know if they're still being produced? I still haven't found a source of parts that are unique to this heli.

Well better hold-on to your Vulcan 450se , I dont think they will make more...........The heli looks great with all the metal looks but compared with the T-Rex the Vulcan is not even close.
I have mine flying ( Vulcan) big thanks to some Align parts like carbon blade and rudder linkage , after days of tuning, the Vulcan was flying,..... a little heavy on the tail section and my throttle control was backward...........so if any of you guys have the best set-up for this kit please share it with some pictures maybe we can make the Vulcan good kit after all, for now I'm going back to my T-Rex

I am brand new at the RC helo thing. I too bought a Vulcan 450 SE. Until I read your story, I have been telling these guys a t XHELI, "Hey...I need a manual"! There response "Yep...Its in the mail". B_llsh_t!!! The 450 is almost the same as the T Rex. Still trying to figure out where to mount the servo's???

I have been thinking about sending it back.

Hi Kelly61, have no fears! I too am a beginner to RC helicopters, I have a vulcan 450SE as well as a used TRex that i am using as "guide". Seriously though, I think you may learn more by not having a manual and doing your research here at RCuniverse and other sites across the net. You can look at trex 450se manuals for reference as well as manuals for the Spektrum DX6. I have been reading the Spektrum manual and there is a lot of great information in there on how to setup servos and other electronics. You can also buy build DVD's for like $10 and that is better than any slapped together manual. Good luck and if you build your Vulcan post some pictures here maybe we can get Dale_g to chime in every now and then.

NO! You just need to reverse the servo settings in your transmitter.

Set up your servos so that the connecting rods are vertical from the swash to the servo arm, and you properly center the servo arms (must be done with rcvr installed, connected to servos and powered up, and the transmitter on) and you center the swash so that with the servo arms in the neutral position, the swash is perfectly level (or perpendicular to the main shaft in all directions) AND the rotor blades are pitched at 0 deg with neutral servo arms and neutral swash.

After that is correct, you need only change servo direction on the transmitter.

Default RE: "Unofficial" Vulcan 450SE, Pigeon 450, GL450 Thread

I had an offline request for some pics.

I haven't been playing with my heli for a couple months. Last weekend tried to do a little flying - but the previous flight ended with a small minor altercation with a shrub that put the tailboom out of alignment. Well, this weekend I tried to fly, but something was way out of wack. Lots of vibration and blades way out of track. Found that the feathering shaft (shaft that the blade grips connect to through the rotor head) was bent, and I replaced it. Note that the feathering shaft is the standard Align shaft, NOT the 450SE v2 shaft, which is thicker with reduced diameter at the ends. The shaft in the Vulcan has constant diameter.

I also added a second set of Align flybar weights to the flybar to increase stability. The Vulcan comes without weights - I'm using two sets.

After fixing the feathering shaft I flew off a couple packs in hover practice. No mishaps.

Here are some recent pics

I don't remember the size, but it's a machine screw that came with the heli. Silver metal, phillips head. Use loctite. I also bought the hardware set for the HeliDirect.com HDX450. Those screws are mostly allen-head screws, where the Vulcan screws are mostly phillips. I prefer the allen-heads. In the photos below you can see both types of screw.

I recommend buying a spare hardware set. Then you'll have all the screws you ever need. I bought one from helidirect.com for the HDX450. Mine had mostly black allen-head hardware and was about 3.99. This hardware set contains ALL the screws you need for the entire heli except link balls and screws.
