Default Copter X 450 Black Angel

The Copter X Black Angel is
the latest 450 heli from the KY group.
This is one of the best designed 450 helis
it comes with all carbon fiber parts, (frame, paddles, blades, tail blades).
the whole kit is kinda what you would want to upgrade on the 450 SEV2.
but with a more robust framework and a new design head. with all the aluminum works on it

the build was simple and strait forward. no different from a 450 V2 heli. the only difference is the tight space on the framework
as this heli has a single plate design similar to the TreX 450 PRO.

This are the electronics I used with this heli

Motor : Align 430XL
ESC : CC phoenix 35A
BEC : Hobby Wing
Servos : Fusonic Digital servos
Gyro ; Futaba GY401 / 9650 sevro

Maiden flight was good. the heli responded nicely on stick commands.

Replaced the Gyro with a DS760 and Fut 9257... It did make a great leap on rudder authority...

a really nicely made machine...

I second that request from TCipolla!! I have read in the past a comparison between the two (which I forget) but I didn't realise you have both - I thought it was one or the other....

Please elaborate..

Cheers

Jon

BECis a Battery Eliminator Circuit. Some speed controllers have built in BEC's that run the servos, receiver, gyro, etc... For many cheap speed controllers though the built in one is not good enough for helicopter usage and many people will install an external BEC. I could write a lot about it but this link will describe it better than I can

Today we had a chance to maiden the new Production class Black Angel heli.

newly build with some of the common parts out in the market.

Parts

Copter X Black Angel Kit
Motor: stock CPX 3500KV motor (outrunner)
ESC : 50A CPX stock ESC
Gyro: PG800 ( G-lock ) / Inno lab digital tail servo
Servos: Align DS410
Lipo: Zippy Rhino 30C 3S lipo packs

After doing some adjustments on tracking and testing all the electronics...

another test runs...

[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxfcYq9rsb8[/link]

This heli runs nicely... and its the first time I have ever seen a 450 glide down on autorotation.. as if it was a 500 class heli..

We also had a chance to get this heli side by side with the New ALign TREX 450 PRO. Total length canopy to canpoy the Black angel is slightly longer than the TREX PRO.. height wise its almost the same.. But head to tail tip, The Align PRO is longer than than the Black Angel.

But how does it compare in flight with the PRO...

[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwK7G3CPF_k[/link]

well one thing with the ALIGN TREX Pro. The new 430SB motor is far stronger than its previous 430XL brother. This motor has far better torque so less bogging.. but cyclic speed wise I dont think the Black Angel is far behind. Both heli have there own signature feel that is somewhat what makes them unique. The BA is so far one of Copter X's masterpiece 450's

I've been reading a lot of good things about the BA. If I didn't already have a CopterX 450 I would definitely invest in one, but I want to save my money for a 600 sized heli.

RC Heli did a review on the BA. It was kind of strange because they go along and wrote a pretty decent review on it then at the end the say they wouldn't recommend it because it is made by an unknown manufacturer. I think CopterX has been around for long enough now to be a known and established manufacturer, but that's just my opinion.

Attached is the review just in case anyone is interested.

thanks zeta30 on that article...

Copter X has been out in the market for quite sometime.. but I guess its been known to make clone SE helis. Although their quality is kinda acceptable and the pricing is also good.. The new BA is a totally new breed of heli. I found the BA to be a good 450 heli design. The heli is really strong. I have crashed this heli a couple of times but the framework seemed to hold well. The usual parts does get broken like shaft, blades, but I have never broken any of the CF parts other than the tail fin.... The single framework makes the heli really strong. and the material used on this model is quite good. Light yet strong.

This was a flight taken yesterday with the BA

After Fitting KY models Fusonic servos on their Black Angel. Wow this heli rocks....
the digital servos are moving flawlessly and has far better torque than the HS65mg's we tested previously.

here is the latest flights we did with the Black Angel

Another of flying with the Black Angel...

[link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5ZlOV92WYQ[/link]

The Black Angel was also tested by some if the fliers of our field.... and one of the best fliers tested it.. Keefe is our 1 hand flier but even with just one hand he can perform good 3D like most of the other fliers...

You can get it at ehirobo http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/product_...oducts_id=6183

Does anyone know what song that is in the video Soneebee linked (Copter X Black Angel using Spartan Gyro)?

I heard from an Ehirobo rep last week that CopterX is working on a Black Angel 500. It is still in the development stage so it will be a while before it is released.

Wow that will be nice to see. As the Black Angel heli has done really good and its performance is trully a 3D heli. If a 500 class Black Angel will come out it will be something to look forward too

but a larger heli will cost more in terms of lipo packs. And blade costs are more expensive than a standard 450 size. It will have advantages in flight characteristics but will have a turn around in parts cost.

Its more of a preference for the flier. 500 size helis are good as its power, speed and capability of flight is more stable than a 450 heli but will he invest on 6S lipo packs... and a good fast charger to get the packs up and running for another flight...

I think the price will either make it or break it for me. The BA450 runs $265 U.S. so I would think a 500 class would be well above $300. Time will tell though.

As luck would have it I am currently saving for a 500 sized heli. I'm buying electronics as I find decent deals on them.

a 500 size heli does have advantages.. you can get better controls in 3D as the heli is not as fast as the 450 and it has better lift... you get more in control with it....

I'll try to ask around if BA will be coming out with a larger brother. It might be true that Copter X will be coming out with a larger BA

The CX500BA is in its infant stages. Its currently on the design stages. It may take a year or so before it will come out for production. Similar to the 450BA, it took nearly 2 years of development before the release came out late 08 early 09. The 500BA may be released as early as 4th quarter '10 or early '11

It's good that they are taking their time before releasing it. The BA 450 seems to have been released with no bugs to work out, unlike other heli's that seem to have been rushed to production, so hopefully the 500 will as solid as the 450.
