Please help....

I asked for help on the newbie forum without a single reply so I will ask here...
First off Im only really a half newbie I guess..I have mastered hoveing and got the hang of nose in hover till my 4n1 burnt up on my honeybee cp2..I wanted somthing a little bigger so I picked up a very nice shogun v1 from ebay..have completely torn down and rebuilt just to get an idea of things..I bought a futaba 6exh fm radio for it..now heres my problem..I have all my servos installed and everything functions per the manual..ie direction etc..now Im kinda confused on how the motor and esc hook up..nowhere in either manual does it say where on the receiver to plug everthing into..and it never mentions anything about throttle..so how does everthing work..is it going to function similar to my hb in that up stick gives pitch and throttle?..any help (or better yet photos or diagrams) woould be greatly appreciated

RE: Pease help....

The battery connects to the ESC.
The ESC connects to the motor and also the RX on channel 3.
The ESC includes a BEC to supply power to the RX.

The channels should be set up like this...

1) Ail
2) Ele
3) Throttle - ESC
4) Rudder - gyro
5) Gyro gain
6) Pitch

Throttle (ch 3) and pitch are mixed in the TX. You need to read the manual for your TX. You're looking for the entries for throttle curve and pitch curve. I have the 9CAP so I can't give specifics here, maybe someone else can.

The gyro plugs directly into ch4, then the TR servo plugs into the gyro.
ch 5 is the remote gain control for the gyro. If yours doesn't have this then just ignore it.

yeah thats what all my books say to, but for some reason ch 6 on my receiver is labeled 6/B..and when I plug my pitch servo in port 6 and battery in 3 I get nothing..my pitch and throttle curves are all set to factory defaults of 0,25,50 75,100..But let me just say this..I dont yet have a esc and I am just using a standard reveiver pack to get things set up and ready..if all the mixing is handled by the tx, Then shouldnt I still be able to get some response from the servo with stick input? Thanks for the help btw

Since you have no ESC have you tried to just plug your reciever battery into the battery port of your reciever just and check for servo movement?

Yes that is what I have been doing..but I have been plugging my battery into port 6 on the rx and my pitch servo in port 3..everything says that pitch is supposed to be port 6 and battery/esc in port 3 but when I hook it up like that I get nothing at all from any electronics..hence my dellema..thanks for the help

RE: Please help....

If everything works with the battery in ch6 but nothing works with the battery in ch3 then you simply have a bad connection between battery plug and RX.

All the +ve and -ve pins are connected together inside the RX so it makes no difference which ch you plug the battery into. This is done deliberately by the manufacturers.

As you're just testing, plug the battery into ch5 (gyro gain) and put servos on ch3 and ch6. That will let you test out the throttle/pitch mixing.

If the servos move then go to your manual to read up on throttle and pitch curves. If they still don't move, take the radio back to where you bought it.

Yeah I Kinda figured it didnt matter where the battery went, not really that different from surface radios..So I tried what you suggested and put power to ch 5 and servos in 3 and 6..channel 3 still moves with stick input but I am getting nothing from 6..could it be a bad rx..I cant find anyhing in my manual about this particular problem..I really appreciate all the help and advice Karyn

Next thing to check if ch3 moves..

In the TX you need to check the pitch curve. If it's flat that will produce no movement on ch6.

The TX is in heli mode isn't it? I realise it is a heli transmitter, but it can be put in plank mode as well just as a plank TX can be set to heli mode. It is one of the basic parameter settings.

Check the pitch rate setting and the servo end points (if it has this setting).

Can't think of any other settings right now.

RE: Please help....

I will check it and see..I figure its got to be in heli mode since its supposed to be a heli only tx..per my LHS anyway..It does have a full reset function so maybe I'll reset everything and start again from the beginning..as far as I can tell the pitch curves are set at 0(stick down)25, 50, 75 and 100(stick up) these are the factory defaults set in the Tx..will let you know what I find..thanks again

RE: Please help....

Well did full reset..checked throttle and pitch curves..checked epa..still cannot get any pitch/servo movement from port 6..all other ports function fine regardless of port battery is plugged into..battery works in port 6 though -....so is verdict bad Rx?..that seems to be where I'm leaning..I'm about ready to just throw in the towel and stick with surface vehicles..;-}

RE: Please help....

Don't throw in the towel, that can seriously damage your blades...

Just take your RX and TX to your LHS and ask them to check it. It sounds like a faulty RX.

Think of how the towel would feel.

LOL....well I took it onto my LHS today and they were as clueless as myself..BUT..we tried another receiver and it woked correctly..so the gave me the new receiver and a few other small items(they know I drive 60 miles to do business with them)..so it looks like I am back on the right track..I really appreciate all the advice and suggestions..I knew there was a reason I spend so much time here:-0..thanks again and will let you know how she flies..

RE: Please help....

Glad you got it working. Don't forget to post videos of it. (The heli, not the RX)
