Hey guys, after reading the long funjet thread, i have decided to go with the funjet ultra to fulfill my speed needs and i have some questions regarding the setup. My over all goal is a "reasonable" priced setup that will perform very well. My main goal it to be able to "sport fly" and enjoy the plane and be able to really have some speed when i want it. I am not looking to build a plane that is setup for only top speed. But, i would like to see a top speed in the 150 MPH range while still being reliable and usable. But, most of the threads i read are only about speed. Is it possible to have a setup that will be that fast while staying usable on a regular type basis?
If so, i am assuming i will need a 75-100 amp ESC and a 5-6 cell 30 or more C rated battery. But what about motor, prop and battery capacity selection? I have no experience with mega, neu, himax and other high performance motors.
Please let me know your thoughts and what setup you would recommend !!!

I have gone down the road for the FJ with 3S, 4S and 6S. If you want speed, she will be heavy and she flies like a pig compared to a 3S set up. You can get 150 mph and then want to enjoy the smooth flying traits of this plane. If you want speed the first hurdle is the airframe. You need to push the FJ past 1KW to get to 150 mph. A hot set up is required. If you want something fast and yet manageable try to look at a 4S, 3,300 pack of 35C and a 28mm motor of around 3500+KV. An 80A is the bare minimum. Try to stick to a 90A or 120A ESC to keep it safe.
My new FJ will be a 3S 2,200 set up with a Mega 16/15/3 ... hehehee ... keeping it light to enjoy easy flying. Speed kills!

150mph meansclose to2000 watts in reality, which means carrying 3200mah 5s packs, a big arsed motor, and as Tianci said it flies like a pig. You will not enjoy the model much, you cannot fly WOT for more than a few seconds due to the load on your packs etc. I have seen the so called cheap HK setups that claim these sorts of speeds, none have actually done it. We have managed over 180mph with our funjet setup using an ARC 36mm inrunner at 3000+ watts, but it can only be flown in a straight line for a few seconds.
Best overall setup IMHOis an HET 2W20 Typhoon on small 4 cell packs, 2600mah 40c+ is best, a good quality 80A esc and a 4.5 inch prop, this will get you 130+ with reliability, you will be able to fly it hard for extended periods and it will turn and glide like an airplane not a brick.

Mods I like are as follows:
CF strip on underside of the wing, Xacto a slot for the CF strip
CF strip under the fuse, lengthwise, Xacto a slot for the CF strip
If you want to go crazy fast ... get new ailerons, use balsa. I am sticking to a 3S set up ... hehehee ... already at FJ No. 6 now!

Thanks guys for the ideas. I think i am going to use 130ish as a target top speed and stay with 4s instead. I think that will be a fun combo of speed and flight characteristics!!!
So, I am thinking 75-100 amp esc, 3000 ish mah 30-40c 4s packs and a motor to handle the 130 mph setup. Other than the het 2w20 motor, can you guys recommend others??
