Default I NEED SOME HELP...

Hey guys...

first, let me start off by saying "I'm not an electric guy!"...now, with that being said...I would like some help with trying to figure out how to convert my Byrons Mig-15 from a OS DF-.91 with tune pipe to an electric...after talking to a couple guys, i have decided to try to buy through Hobby King, getting the EDF Ducted Fan Unit 7Blade 5" 127mm fan unit...the question is, WHAT DO I USE FOR MOTOR/SPEED CONTROLLER/BATTERIES? Im looking for big/fast/overboard.....here are the specs for the fan (yes, it does suggest what motor to use, but I am having a hard time understanding different motor-ESC combos)......thanks for any help!?!

Outer Case Diameter: 135mm

Sorry - thought you already bought the fan. Basicly you can bolt an adapter to the byron fan and then mount a motor. They run on 10 to 12S 5000 mah packs and can put out as much or more power than the OS 91 version. Since you already have the fan - it could cost you about $350 - 400 to convert it, and since the Byron fan mounts the same - all you need to do is make some battery supports. Adapters and motors can be bought from EJF:

Here is the Byron E conversion:

The original Hacker mod with the A50 puts out the same rpms as the OS 91 - so the thrust is about the same. The hacker electric turbines are putting out more. I have 1 of each, but run them on 10S, I've heard 12S and the turbine is insane.

The A50 is 550 KV and the et is 640 KV

The Scorpion motor is also pretty fast as the KV are the same (630 KV). Easier to mount, but bearings need more maint (lube now and then) and runs higher amps.

How much does your Mig weigh RTF?

I been doing some tests with our CNC 127mm Dynamax fan, the Scorpion motor is pretty impressive for its size. 15lb thrust at 4600 watts and the sound of 11 blade rotors is as close to turbine as u gonna get at present. AUW with brackets ready to mount is 890 grams. I recall reading about the scorpion bearing thing on rcgroupsand Mr Scorpion saying he didnt think it was an issue in fan installations.
