K&B 1.00 DF vs OS 91VR-DF
I have a K&B 100 DF engine, tuned pipe and remote mixture needle on hand that I'm thinking of putting into a speed plane. It will be turning a prop and yes the prop I will use is capable and safe.
My question is, if there are any guys out there that had ran both the K&B and the OS 91VR-DF in a ducted jet and how did they compare in power and behavior?
The specs listed are virtually identical except displacement.
Thanks.

RE: K&B 1.00 DF vs OS 91VR-DF
I have run the OS 77 and 91, K&B 82 and the K&B 100. The OS was superior to both the K&B's. As stated previously, more reliable idle but most of all, better transition. I ran the OS91 in an old Balsa USA Delta with a pipe and prop.I ran a 12x8 cut to 11x8 and it ran very well. The ducted fan pipe will work well but you just need to find the right prop to get the engine in the correct rpm range (need to be in the high teens or low 20K range). If the K&B 100 in NIB and has never been run, then you need to take the engine apart and ensure there are no metal shavings inside. One of the problems we encountered with the 100's was a lack of quality control and some had metal shavings inside. The other thing that was a problem with the 82 and100's was that the carb was not quite right. The carb would not let the engine transition quite right. My solution was to take an OS91 DF carb and install it into the K&B 100. If you are working on the K&B 82 then use the OS 65 or 77 DF carb. The barrel on the OS is metric and the K&B obviously is not. The OS carb is just slightly undersize for the K&B. My solution was to take an aluminum Coke can and cut a small strip (the width of the barrel) and long enough to make one wrap around the barrel. I cut the can, wrapped the aluminum around it (only one revolution).I applied a little silicone to the aluminum and the barrel of the carb and then installed the entire assembly into the back of the K&B. Then tighten the pinch bolt and you are finished. This combo served me very well. In fact, I still have 6 of the OS 91's, three OS 77's one KBV 82 and a K&B 82 if anyone is interested in one.
