Default Depron F16

Hi Guys

i am new to depron and i just thought i would pop over the the jets section and post a pic or 2 of my F16,
its taken months to reach this stage but i have enjoyed the challenge
i dont know if i am in the right section but i will post them anyway

nope its not a little childs brush beside it

its 5 ft long, 40 inch wing span,

i thought i would put an international unit of measurement in the pic to show the size !

i still have the missile rails to finish and the decals to do so i am trawling the net for the thunderbirds decals,

WOW!! That's one HUGE depron plane! And good looking, too! How do you plan to power it?

icepilot

i am using an Align 420Lf on 3 cells but a Mega 16/15/3 is even better

the prop i use is a 6x2 and its almost like an EDF,
if you look closely at the tail pipe you can just see the prop,
i will upload a better pic

in flight it is almost impossible to see the prop even on a close Fly by [8D]

the airframe is 575 grams,

the AUW is 950 grams on the set up i am using but it will take a lot more,

i know its hard to see in the pics but i have used a lot of Vacuum Formed plastics as a blend to make the F16,

it makes the F16 very quick to build and the cockpit has a Battery bay moulded into it,

i put flanges on the Vac form parts so the Depron skin can be glued

on the set up i am using it does about 70+ MPH but i have pushed it to 100 and as its a 1/9th scale thats a scale speed off 900 mph [X(]

because its depron it doesnt take much to make it go vertical
and the Vac formed plastics make it more resilient to front end impact

i wanted a Big Jet that was very cost effective to go vertical !
i cant afford a turbine that has 19 Ilbs of thrust to power 17Ilbs F16 so i made a 2 Ilb RPV that needed 2+ILBs of thrust

I have Vin #1 on the way.
Once I get it. I'll do a comprehensive built and test flight.
That baby is going to be easy to keep track of in the air.
I'll do the first as a stock build. Then maybe we can look at a hop up version like on the Strykers. OHHHHHHHHH, I know, Dark Side it, and hang a EDF set up in it.

Wow,
Just got the build manual. Nice!!!!!! Has pictures, even I can do it. LOL
Seriously, very comprehensive set of instructions, a lot of thought went into this.
The photos make the instructions very easy to understand.
Appears to be a very simple build. Good quality materials are included for much of the actual building. You will need the standard building supplies, glues, tape, etc.
And there is some hardware that you will need, most of which you probably have already accumulated if you've been doing any building.
Guide is as of now 39 pages long, more then half are photo documentation, so there is not a lot of building. A lot less then the 350+page CD manual on my F20 Tigershark.
I can't wait to get started!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. One note. It's printed up in the Queen's English, so us on the other side of the pond may have a little trouble desciphering it. [sm=lol.gif]

Glacier Brad

lots of time and effort did go into the instructions !
i have been there many times before scratching my head when putting something together [&:]
i also liked the idea of sending the instruction ahead of the kit for a few reasons,
it gives the builder time to buy goodies to start building as soon as the kit arrives, 39 pages is a lot to read and digest !, it also lets the builder familiarize himself with the parts and read before building the F16 !,
and finally.. i would need to own a printing company for to make anything out of it ,
and also its very user friendly and if anyone wants to print it out then its their own choice
you can even do it at work when the boss isnt lookin hahah

Do you not Know the Queens English over there?. Of Course we Know she's English i hear you all shout back LOL

i am looking forward to hearing your fisrt impression of the kit when you open the box,
hopefully it arrives without any damage, if there is any parts didnt make the journey let me know for insurance purposes and also if any depron parts are broken i can send you the template to cut any part again,
if any vac formed part is damaged i will send out a replacement, but this stuff is very resiliant and it would take someone stomping on it to make it un-usable

Some people who have built the ... er... brother of this design have used Typhoon 15 outrunners for power. That just means using a bigger prop. (I have not built this)

What exactly is moldings in the kit?

(also trying to suggest that a few words about the history of the design might be appropriate on the first page of this thread)

You are correct i will be selling these as a production run very soon,
at the moment i am working on getting the costs down with suppliers of the materials,
i am presently working on a Pristine F16 for a photo shoot for a U.K r/c Mag next week [8D]
once i have that is done i can work on getting the costs down so it becomes a world wide desirable Plane,

i think i am right in saying its the First Depron F16 on the market !
the extensive use of Vacuum formed parts at the front end makes this possible,
its not being sold as a scale F16 but it captures every bit of how an F16 looks and flies

because the Depon F16 is so light it doesnt take much to make it go vertical

why should the turbine guy's have all the fun? !

i spent many hours looking at turbine F16's and they are Brilliant.. works of Art [8D]
this baby was born from the desire to fly something that big at a fraction of the cost
i think i have achived it

if you think it looks good on the ground.. it looks Awesome in the air !

before you get out your cheque book.. lets see what Glacier has to say about the kit !

its Nail Bitting Time [>:]

Cheers

Ray

the kit contains 8 moulded parts for the nose cone (2 Parts), cockpit battery bay, a 400 mm long canopy, instrument panel and rear canopy attach and tail pipe (2 parts)

this is what turns a box of depron bits into a curvey F16
and the best thing is... NO SANDING or Sculpting of depron to guess the best shape [8D]
all the work is done for you

the canopy slides on and off for quick battery change with no hassle

forgive the red lines, these pics are from the Build manual and to demontrate the way it goes together

Hi All

its been a lot of hard work but appart from a few minor details she is ready to Rock an Roll [8D]

i have a much greater appreciation now for anyone who builds scale RPV's

even though the Depron F16 is not a scale craft it captures the Spirit in my eyes

Cheers

Wooooooo whoooooooooooooooo, the package arrived.
Scarey looking box. Looked like everyone in the Postal service, here and abroad took out their frustrations on it. Box was nearly flattened, had an 8" hole through front and back, and a hole and a 6" gash right through the "Do Not Bend,Fold, or Mutilate" signs on it.[:@]
Due to excellent packing though all was safe and sound inside.

Man, the photos do not give you a true sense of the size this bird is going to be.
This photo might help you understand better. That's the canopy with a $1.00 bill for size comparison.[X(]

I'll try and get the build started tomorrow. With photos.

Ray,
I have gotten great advice and help from GG on several of my projects. I'm sure you'll get a great review. How can I go about getting one of your kits to show off at the SEFF (Southeastern Electric Flying Festival)show here in May? If you're in full production by then, I'm sure I could sell some for you just by flying one.

i should be in full production by then and having the F16 flown at air shows is good publicity

i know Brad has an Excellent reputation on the forums and what he writes will reflect the F16,
i was Very pleased when he offered to be the first U.S. customer

How the depron isnt damaged after all that abuse is beyond me [&:]
i did package it well but it just goes to show how these packages are man handeled [>:]

looking forward to reading what he thinks of the kit

Ray,
Even wifey was impressed with size. Woman are like that.
Just so the othe guys can see, I snapped some shots of the box.
I'm amazed how much abuse it took, and still everything survived.
#1 shows 8" hole punched completly through the box.
#2 better shot of the hole
#3 cut right through the cardboard, and the "Do be Careful" sign.
#4 concaved box.

Well I promised Ray I would build first then relay my thoughts to him before posting.
Since he's on holiday in France. Yeah right, he actually has a layover in Nice, before hopping over to Monte Carlo, to hob nob with the la de da bunch.
Anyhow, I figured a tid bit of what's in the kit wouldn't hurt.
So pic #1 is what's in the box.[X(]
