RE: Who makes a fast non-foam EDF?
Jason,
The F-5 you speak of is probably the Vasa F-5 that is available through vendors to include Hobby Lobby. It runs off the 65mm Vasa-65 EDF unit and has an all glass fudelage with sheeted wings, but is a bit pricey. Moreover, there are not very many models that use the Vasa Fan, making it not a very practical choice. Now, if you are looking for fast, non-foam models, I would suggest any one of the many Minifan-480 sized models that are available. They are all based on the 69mm diameter Wemotec Minifan480, which is the foundation size for performance EDF jets and are not much bigger than the F-5. While the F-5, which has problems to include re-usability issues and radio interference problems, the minifan sized models are plentiful, vary from build up, to ARC to ARF and several are hand launchable. Moreover, the power range of the Vasa Fan is limited to around 400 watts, where the Minifan is capable of producing over 700 watts of power, making it a better investment.
Go to www.warbirds-rc.com and check out the many different models available. If you need additional information, send me an email and I can send you a doc to help get you started in EDF.

You can try the Super Sniper. A very fast jet (not as fast as the vector2 though).
Available as fiberglass/foam-balsa wing version:
