Default Searching for the right ducted fan

I want to mount a ducted fan to a Nitro Vee boat. For the look I am hoping for, a tube roughly 8" long would be best, but I am open to anything. I need, more than anything, tons of power, equal on the water to a nitro motor or better.

What's the dealwith the new Great Planes ducted fan plane? What if I used two fans, would that give me the power I need?

I hope you air guys can help me!

The XPD-8 (I think that's the name) fan looks pretty short. The way the fans work, would it hurt any to install it in a longer tube?

Nobody? I need an electric jet capable of pushing a 2lb 30" deep vee up to 40moh, even if I have to use two of them!

If you are looking for a fan to provide more thrust than a nitro driven prop, I think you'll be disapointed.

Really? I can't imaginr there is NO option out there! The guy from ejf.com is telling me that the 90mm midijet with a brushless should do it, is that incorrect?

There are options but they will cost more $ than what you have.

Why not just use a prop ala "swamp buggy"?

Blue, the problem with DF's in our scales is that they just aren't that powerfull. You're using a lot of energy to move a very small volume of air very fast. When efficency favors moving a lot of air at a lower speed. And in the case of the boat, an incompressable medium (water) at a lot of speed wins every time.

Short of a 32 pound thrust turbine your boat won't move very fast being pushed by air.

Well, my rescue boat is air powered, ala swamp buggy, so I don't need another one like that.

Basically I had a picture in my head of what I wanted the boat to look like, and I am trying to figure out a way to make it work. I guess it's just not going to work. That's too bad, it would've been sweet...
