Default GWS EDF40

I just picked up one of these fan units (stock). I heard it only gives out a earth shaking 20w! I'm probably gunna build a depron or balsa/covering nano jet for it.

Is anybody using one of these? Any recommendations on lipo set ups?
Thanks

Stick a 25 turn FeiGau 120L brushless motor into it, with a FeiGau 10 amp esc, and you will have around 250g thrust with an 800mah 20c 3 cell pack. Alot of guys run this setup on the TP730 12c prolite packs as they are pretty light.

The only way to go with the EDF40 is to convert it to 3 cell brushless. The 25 or 28 turn 12mm Feigao and the 5300kV 12mm Medusa are the only choices.

The 25 turn Feigao is the overall horsepower champ, but you need to manage the throttle to avoid overworking the motor and batteries.

Thanks for the info,

Stock it seemed a bit light on for thrust so I've ordered a feigao for it. I imagine the setup will put out some rpms. I just wonder how strong the blades are and if they'll cope with the increased horsepower.

I have more than 100 flights on this setup. It is done all over by many micro jet guys and no one has ever reported any trouble like you mention.

Thanks for the info.

It makes me feel a bit more confident. The last thing I want is a blade to break to 30,000 rpm. I think I'll be wearing my safety goggles testing it out just to be on the safe side.

They turn more like 40,000+ RPM...

As long as the fan is not damaged, you will not have any trouble at all. Hundreds of these conversions have been done with no issues to speak of.

I was running the EDF40 with 28L FeiGao last night, using a DN Power 3s450mah 20c pack I was pulling 6.7 amps and holding 10.5 volts which is pretty impressive for such a little pack. Soon as I get time I will run it during the day and get an RPM figure for it vs volts so I can work out the efficiency. Its going into a fan-tastic foam F9F Panther.
