Default F16 FSW

Going to be converting a BVM F16 to 120mm EDF, but I have decided to put the wings on back to front.

Started with a simple chuck Glider, now I have prepared a "Phase 3" F16 in the configuration I need.

Normally I post in RC Groups, but I am getting a bit tired of the posturing and bickering[&o]

The concept is based on a proposal FSW aircraft called the "Sabre Bat" (Middle), the F16 is the closest configuration I could find.

The chuck glider has had its wings clipped quite a bit since it was built, the black dot is where I need the CG to be because of the UC position on the full sized model.

I have not flown this particular model as yet, hoping to do so as soon as the weather in the UK lifts a bit. Sort of missed my weather window yesterday which would have been ideal.

I built two versions of this with RamTech ICDF back in the early 90s, the first flew very well but was lost due to canard flutter on the maiden, untill then it was pretty ballisitic. The second was not so good as I changed a couple of things including the rear wing section, it was not quite right and I could not get it trimmed properly.

With the chuck glider I have re-discovered some secrets, the foamy is to test the wing section which has a reverse semi symetrical at the rear and a thin flat bottom at the tip.

General characteristics observerved;

Wont spin

Wont stall (sort of stops and mushes down like a leaf)

Pretty quick

Not really finished painting it, flight on hold because of the bad weather.

Trying to keep the weight off so its very fragile and easily damaged. Not really sure about the paint job, but it has given me some ideas about the full size model.

Starting to think that a NIB yellow/BV F16 may be a better bet than me butchering the damaged BV F16 I have, NIB might be less work.

Will try for the sky tomorrow if its not blowing a gale.

Whoops

CG at bit too far back and perhaps a bit too much incidence on the canards.

When vertical on launch and dropped the nose vertical when I backed off on the power.

Pulled out the crushed nose by warming it on a radiator and glued it back on.

Will try later in the week.

seeing this thread seems mearly to be a spectator sport!

This is quite cool.

As a model it will suck as it will be dynamically unstable and boy with those lower canards your retracts would have to be ultra reliable!

Long time "Jet Buddy" Ron Sweeny has an extensive video and photgraph archive of most of the DF to turbine era. He happened to be at "Top Gun" in Devon in 96 to see my orginal F16 FSW before its maiden. Once the pilot Paul Grey got it rotated it was ballistic and as fast at anything at the event with an OS91 and a ramtech in it.

Canards suffered from terminal flutter on a low fast pass and came off, you dont walk away from incidents like that, this was no exception!

Lots of wing area, too much really. Interesting to remind myself what I did with the inlet 100% FSA compressed to the fan face with that fairing that covered the nose retract gear, leg and wheel, Ramtechs were very air thirsty.

Had my wn desging retract gear sequencing system on board.

I actually own the plug for this model, I must get it off Bruce, its still in his loft!

Oh yes, lost foamy version on third flight due to disorientation in low winter sun. Will do another as I was not through testng some stuff yet. The Big EDF model is now likely to be from the plug I have rather than the BVM F16, it will actually be less work I think.
